WELCOME BACK TO BOTB!

It’s time to announce the results of the Feb. 15th showdown.

#BOTB results, PORt OF AMSTERDAM

BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Please note: Effective July 2017, I switched to once a month on the 15th only. This will allow me more time to share other types of material with you.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.

Finally, finally, finally! The dreaded blowout curse has been broken. What a relief! This one was looking like a photo finish, and before I cast my vote, it was. You were split right down the middle, six to six. While I liked both versions, I felt more of an emotional response to David Bowie, especially when he lapsed into narration. It seemed more poignant. John did give it his all, though.

  1. So, we had an epic tie, between two done and gone pop singers, a race for the ages, cascading down a winding path to an eventual ̶c̶o̶n̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶t̶i̶e̶ tie breaker…

Congratulations in not having a blown out skirmish. This was quite exciting. 🙂

    1. Hi Myke; I was pretty psyched to break the blowout curse! 😀 Maybe I should have abstained and left it a tie because both versions were excellent. Selfishly, I wanted my choice to win, though. Baaaaad! 😉

  2. Debbie,

WOW, what a tight showdown! I sorta figured David would win and he did a good job. I just prefer John’s folkals (I invented a new word) better mainly because he didn’t do the narrative bit in his cover. Have a good weekend, my friend!

    1. Hi Cathy; I like that word, “Folkals”. Almost as good as mewsic. 🙂 Oddly enough, it was the narrative part that attracted me the most. John’s version was excellent too, though and a tie seemed fitting, but I just had to add my two cents in there. 😉 Have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Sandee; I was even younger – 16. If I recall, you voted for John Denver’s version, but they are both good. 🙂 A tie seemed like the right outcome, but I wanted to add my own two cents. Thanks for coming by! Have a good weekend.

  3. The songs from the old days ( when I was young that is) somehow fill me with sadness. This song particularly was gritty and I could actually feel the grunge as each chord was strummed. But you are right about both the singers coming to a close finish. It is hard to decide but Bowie’s version has a metallic edge to it. The original French though really brought on a feeling of sadness. Such a morbid song about the bowels of a port that actually made its fortune as a trading port.

    1. It is a dramatic song, for sure. 🙂 Each version brought something unique to it. My choice was Bowie, but they were all good. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Cheers!
