Yes, it’s another one of those “getting to know you” questionnaires. Since I haven’t been doing much in the blogging world lately, I thought it might be fun. This one is brought to you by Tamara of Part-Time Working Hockey Mom fame. Thanks (I think 😉 ) for tagging me. This is payback for the time I roped her into answering 30 Odd Questions! 😀
1. Do you like blue cheese?
Nooooo – yuck! Give me Grana Padano or Parmigiano Reggiano.
They go so well with pinot grigio and fresh figs.
2. Have you ever smoked cigarettes?
I smoked for almost 4o years but finally managed to quit. Want to know how?
Need help with that, yourself? Find some great tips HERE.
3. Do you own a gun?
Hell no! This is Canada, known for its peacekeeping missions, where the average person doesn’t own one and the crime rate is relatively low.
People who have guns include military and law enforcement personnel, hunters and collectors.
Oh yeah; criminals too, who get them illegally, smuggled over the U.S. border.
4. What flavour Kool-Aid?
I haven’t had any Kool-Aid since childhood. If I remember correctly, grape was a favourite flavour.
It wasn’t as sweet as some of the others.
5. Do you get nervous before a Dr.’s appointment?
Not usually, but I’m becoming a bit of a hypochondriac in my old age.
Had a major health scare two years ago and ended up in the hospital, so I’m more attuned to symptoms and such.
Read about my harrowing experience HERE.
6. What do you think of hot dogs?
If you’re talking about the North American variety, made from mystery meat; not a huge fan.
German Bratwurst or Knackwurst, on the other hand, with Düsseldorf Senf (a brand of German mustard)? Count me in!
7. What is your favourite movie?
Avid movie buff here, so there are many! I love classic movies, comedies, drama, action-adventure, James Bond, true stories and more.
Not a fan of fantasy (with a couple of exceptions), horror or most science fiction (love Star Trek). See more HERE:
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee. As a night owl who still gets up fairly early, this is much-needed fuel!
Read my Ode to Coffee HERE.
9. Can you do a push-up?
Highly unlikely! Honestly, I haven’t tried, since getting down on the floor is uncomfortable for me, what with a bad knee, arthritis and all.
My workouts are confined to the chair variety, using light weights or a resistance band. (Not that I’m very good about following a schedule, there. Hoping to do better!)
10. What’s your favourite piece of jewellery?
I have two favourites. The “D” pendant was a 50th birthday present, custom-made to hubby’s specifications.
The filigreed gold ring was purchased on the Greek island of Hydra, during our 40th anniversary trip in 2013. Such a precious souvenir!.
11. Do you have a favourite hobby?
Right now it’s photography, but there’s also travel (big trip coming up [Sept. 2018] for our 45th anniversary).
Writing/blogging has taken a backseat lately, but I’m still posting occasionally.
I also loved designing my website and the technical challenges involved with maintaining it (can be stressful at times, when things go wrong.
Those are the best learning experiences, though!)
12. Do you have A.D.D.?
Oh yes! I’m so easily distracted, which is why it takes me forever to get anything done.
Sorry, what was the question again? 😉
13. Do you wear glasses?
Yes, thanks to myopia and astigmatism. Got my first pair at the age of seven.
Wore contact lenses for about 30 years, but allergies and dry eye syndrome have forced me back into glasses.
I have what they call “transitional lenses” (basically, trifocals); good for reading, distance and computer screens.
14. Who was your childhood idol?
Superman’s reporter girlfriend, Lois Lane! I wanted to be one too and even went to journalism college for a year.
It wasn’t my “cup of tea” to write about topics that were assigned rather than chosen. Rebel then, rebel still!
15. Name three thoughts you have right now.
Is this winter EVER going to end??!
Why is my vision getting blurry (likely too much time staring at the computer screen!)?
What can I eat for lunch?
16. Name three drinks you consume regularly.
Coffee, water, wine
17. Current worries
The leaky pipe under the kitchen sink.
Saving enough money for this wildly expensive trip in Sept.
Losing enough weight to fit back into my favourite clothes.
18. Current hates
Snow, freezing rain, icy cold winds; winter, in general
19: Favourite place to be?
So many! Like Tamara, I love San Diego, where my parents lived for decades, but I’m also drawn back to Europe, where I was born. Rome, Santorini, The Canary Islands are all fabulous! That said, I also love where I live, in the Toronto suburbs.
20. How did you bring in the New Year?
A romantic dinner for two with hubby at our favourite restaurant.
21. Where would you like to go?
Top five on the bucket list right now: Malta, Venice, Corfu, Barcelona, Florence/Pisa.
We will be hitting every one of those in Sept. (2018) Can’t wait!
22. Name three people who will do this.
I’d rather open it to anyone who wants to participate.
23. Do you own slippers?
Absolutely! My feet are always freezing in the winter and this is Canada.
I have slip-ons, booties and also “heat socks” with traction on the bottom.
24. What colour is your shirt?
Navy blue, long sweater.
25. Do you like sleeping in satin sheets?
No; too slippery. I prefer cotton sheets in the summer and flannel ones in the winter.
26. Can you whistle?
Yes, but not as well as I used to.
27. Where are you now?
At my dining table in front of the laptop.
28. Would you be a pirate?
No way! Too dangerous and dirty
29. Favourite candy?
Anything with chocolate, but no nuts. They cause breakouts for me.
30, Least favourite chore?
All of them, especially vacuuming. So, so boring! If only houses could be self-cleaning.
31. Favourite food?
Seafood, Italian
32. What’s in your pocket?
Nothing. Everything goes in the purse.
33. Last thing that made you laugh?
The dogs’ antics in the snow.
34. What’s your favourite animal?
I’ll give you one guess. It’s a dog’s life!
35. What’s your worst injury?
Broken right ankle in 1998. It has a plate and five screws holding it together.
36. How many TVs in your house?
Three; a 42″ one in the living room, 24″ in the bedroom, and
there’s an old model in the basement with a VCR still connected.
37. Worst pain?
See #35. I was in the schoolyard close to my house with a couple of dogs. No cell phone in those days.
It was a Saturday afternoon and there was nobody around to help me, so I hobbled home, grabbing onto anything I could.
It took over an hour and caused a lot more damage to the ankle. Thank goodness the dogs were well behaved!
38. Do you like to dance?
Yes, but it’s pretty much confined to dancing around the house, these days.
We went to a lot of weddings and parties plus hosted many of our own in the halcyon years.
Good times!
39. Are your parents living?
They’re both gone, now. My mother died in Oct. 2016 and my father in Feb. 2011
40. Do you enjoy camping?
Hell no! My idea of roughing it is a hotel room without a coffee maker and fridge.
Did any of these answers surprise you?
Do you like these types of questionnaires?
Will you write your own post about this?
Looking forward to your comments!

These types of questionnaires are so fun! It is fun to learn a little more about others and I find I learn things about myself too. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to The Den, Amanda! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for dropping in.
You are taking a great cruise and. Good friends of mine did the same cruise and loved every moment of it. You will so enjoy this and you will be back to Greece even if it is not as long as your first visit. I loved Venice!! It is a walking city…an amusement park for adults. I love dogs too but I. Wild animals, the wolf. My hubby has classic severe ADHD and it can be difficult at times but he has a heart of gold and is easy to love..for me that is. I wish I could travel to Europe but now we are in debt with a car due to me.
Hi Birgit; Yes, the cruise is going to be something special, for sure! We’re breaking the bank on this one and will likely end up in debt when it’s all over. Life is short, though and the time is now. 🙂 Enjoy your new car! Thanks for dropping in. Apologies for the late reply.
I love all of your answers. We have the same taste in food but I am definitely a camping girl! I’m going to do this questionnaire this week! We don’t do enough of these. Oh, and I’m also with you on the mystery meat hot dogs. I too love a good brat.
HI Karin; I’m a spoiled “princess” who likes her creature comforts. LOL I’m glad you enjoyed the post and look forward to yours, as well. There’s no deadline so, take your time. 🙂 Have a good weekend!
I enjoyed reading your answers and I was answering right along as I went through the questions. I don’t guess I’ll be doing this, but I’ve answered a lot of things about myself on my blogs in the past.
I was surprised by vacuuming as a least favorite chore. I find it to be the easiest partially due to the Shark vacuum cleaner that my girls bought us for Christmas a couple years ago. I usually vacuum once a week since it’s just my wife and I in the house usually and the floors don’t get that messy.
Lee
Tossing It Out
Thanks for coming by, Lee. Vacuuming is my least favourite chore because I’m a klutz and always tripping over the cord, plus, the noise gets on my nerves. 😛 You can imagine, with dogs in residence we have to do it frequently. Lucky for me, my husband doesn’t mind taking that over, most of the time. I see you have a BOTB going on currently. I’ll be checking that out, shortly. Have a good weekend!
40 questions was a long list. I liked most was the part about travelling to different places all over the world.
That’s my favourite part, too. 🙂 Thanks for visiting, Anamika!
Hehe, I enjoyed reading these, Debbie! I felt terrible about missing posting the 30 questions post, especially because I jotted down the answers and meant to!
I am laughing over the roughing it in a hotel room without a coffee maker! hahaha!
I would so love a self-cleaning house right now. I shudder to think of getting started after being down for ten days! But I actually enjoy housework!
Hugs!
Hi Vidya; It’s true; I’m just a spoiled brat. 😉 Sorry you’ve been sick; 10 days is quite a stretch and I’m glad to know you’re better again. You enjoy housework? Want to come over and do mine? 😀 I find it mind-numbing and tedious. Thank goodness for music! Thanks for coming by.
Loved your D locket, Debbie!
And, totally agree with you – houses should be built such, they should be able to clean themselves! 😛
Thanks, Shilpa! I never take it off. 🙂 A self-cleaning house would make life so much easier. LOL
I just got to know you better… Let me find some time to do this for myself as well. Some of these questions are such that the answers to which even I haven’t thought about. A very fun and interesting post 🙂
Thanks for coming by, Nabanita! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the post and I’d love to read your answers if you decide to join us. Let me know!
Hey Debbie,
Good to see you back out here in the blogosphere! I really enjoyed reading your answers! Fun stuff. I might partake even. (probably not though. Doing three blog posts this week is an unusual over-achievement for me these days).
I found it amusing your hatred of the snow and cold because I just sent a text to one of my dogsitting customers who is, interestingly, in Toronto right now! I asked if they were enjoying the bitter cold Canada air and told them how jealous I was and how irritated I am that it’s likely going to get up to 70 degrees tomorrow! I mean c’mon, can’t we have at least a semblance of a winter season and not just frickin’ two cold days?! Pisses me off! It was a wonderful 18 (F) degrees the other morning, and 22 the next and I was simply in Heaven! The dogs dig the cold weather too…though not as much as me. 🙂
I see we like some of the same movies: I saw you included Hitchcock’s “Marnie” in your list of favs. Back when I was in high school, I went to summer school for two years in a row taking advance classes so I could graduate a year early and one of the classes was a Film class. Hitchcock and “Marnie” was one of the movies we studied in-depth. The instructor was going to use “Psycho” but it was out of stock, which was disappointing but “Marnie” was cool.
Good to see you posting again! In fact I was just thinking of dropping you a line the other day. Was watching the Olympics the other night and was so impressed with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s figure-skating performance! They were fantastic and definitely earned the Gold. Congrats!! I just turned the TV over to the Olympics and I don’t know if I’ve missed the figure-skating tonight. Hope I didn’t but looking at the time I probably did…
Oh wait, some figure skating is just coming on… Yay!
Anyway, good to be back at your blog commenting… 🙂
talk soon,
Michele at Angels Bark
Hi Michele; Sorry, I still haven’t got the blogging mojo back and likely won’t be doing a lot, this year. That’s funny about your client being in Toronto. 🙂 I would kill for 70 degrees in February! Oh yes, come and play. 😀 There’s no time limit, so you could write it whenever it suits you. I’d love to read your answers. Canada usually does pretty well at the Winter Olympics. The big thing is hockey, of course, but figure skating is up there, too. We are proud of Virtue and Moir, especially. Thanks for coming by. Let’s keep in touch. Have a good long weekend!
I think my least hated job is the dishes. I don’t mind doing them, especially in the Winter. Mind you, I’m not a fan of cleaning the pots and pans, but normal dishes is okay with me. Like you, I’m a big coffee person. I recently signed up for a coffee club which sends a new coffee to your home from a different country each month. Just got one from Guatamala. Looking forward to trying more. Also, I’m into photography as well. Love taking photos and trying new things in development.
Thankfully, we have an automatic dishwasher, but I don’t mind washing dishes as much as some other chores. That coffee club sounds interesting! I remember the spectacular sunrise photos on your blog, Jeffrey. You definitely have the knack! Thanks for coming by. You have been missed in the Blogosphere.
This was fun getting to know you better. I should do something like this sometime, I just don’t know when. I still have no idea if I will be doing the A to Z this year. I feel quite distracted lately.
Thanks for coming by, Mary. Yes, please join us! It would be something a little different for you. 🙂 I understand distraction and haven’t been into blogging really since last year’s A to Z Challenge finished. That totally burned me out and I’m skipping it this year. There’s just too much going on offline and I can’t be sitting at the computer all day for a whole month. Four years in a row was enough. Maybe next year! I’ll still be checking out what everybody is writing about, though. Can’t resist it completely.
These are always so much fun – I did my own post
https://thriftshopcommando.blogspot.com/2018/02/40-things-about-me.html
Thanks for participating, Tami. 🙂 I enjoyed your post and left a comment.
I love these quizzes–they’re something to do that has nothing to do with translating; 😉 I think I knew most of that stuff–I just seem to come on here at just the right moment. I’m so jealous of that trip you’re taking. Well, see you later.
Hi Mary; You probably know me better than most! 🙂 If you want a break from translating, why not do this on your own blog? There’s no deadline so you can write it at your leisure. That trip is something out of my wildest dreams. Hard to believe it’s actually going to happen! Thanks for coming by.
Okay. This takes some planning, but I’ll eventually answer. Thanks for posting this.
Hi Denise; Yes, it took me awhile to get into it. No rush or time limit. Looking forward to your post! 🙂
P.S. That’s a play on a name from Star Trek Next Generation and it occurs to me that you may just mean the original series.
I loved “Next Gen” even more than the original. 🙂 Got the connection immediately.
I’m with you on the coffee and Star Trek. One of my (many) names is Lieutenant Woof, Chief of Security! 😀
I’ll have a look through your favourite films to see what I find.
Well, hi there, Lieutenant Worf, er Woof! 😀 That’s a cool nickname, Clowie. Thanks for checking out the post. If you like classic movies, I’m sure you’ll enjoy some of my selections.
Debbie,
Great set of questions! I loved reading your responses and getting to know you better. ? Your artwork is so cute. Did you draw these? I will certainly lift these questions for a future post. I’m unsure when that’ll be, though. I’m about 98% sure after this month I need to not do much blogging if I want to participate in the A to Z Challenge. I want to create more art sketches this year. Well…that’s my thinking anyhow. I’m beginning to second guess this decision. Thanks for sharing yourself with us, my friend. Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day? Have a good week! ?
Thanks for coming by, Cathy! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed it and look forward to your post, if and when it comes up. I know how challenging the A to Z is, having done it 4 straight years in a row. I’ll be skipping it this year due to lack of time. Your art sketches last year were wonderful! I’m sure they would be just as lovely this time.
Those cartoons are Bitstrips. There used to be an app on Facebook to make them but it was discontinued. Now there are Bitmojis, instead. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitstrips.imoji&hl=en
Hubby and I ignore Valentine’s Day because we feel it’s just a fake holiday, manufactured by the retail industry. Plus, he works from 2-10 pm during the week. We make our own Valentine’s Days all through the year when it suits us. 🙂 Hope you have a great one, though!
Debbie,
I apologize for not returning before now but I just wanted you to know I am sharing my responses to these questions in today’s post.
Valentine’s Day is commercialized just like all holidays and you’re right, you don’t need one day out of 365 to declare your love for your husband. I think showing it every day to one another is more meaningful and real anyhow but…I won’t ever turn down chocolates or flowers.
Thanks for telling me about Bitstrips. I will see if I can find that in the Apple App store. Have a good day. Oh yeah, if you’re interested but don’t feel pressed to do it, but I do have March 1 BoTB still open. Gotta jet. Have a good day, my friend!
PS: To bad you’re sitting out this year on the A2Z Challenge but I understand the need to do other things. I almost thought about not doing it but then I decided just to do it because I love to sketch and how else am I going to purrfect my craft without (lots) practice. 🙂
Hi Cathy! I just read your 40 Questions post. Thanks for playing along. ☺️ Best wishes for a successful A to Z challenge. Loved your sketches last year!
Great post, Debbie!
Most answers did not surprise me, I guess I have gotten to know you pretty well!
I had no idea there was such a thing as Düsseldorf Senf, though!? I’m with you on the Bratwurst! Much better than mystery meat dogs!
Thanks for playing!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Tamara. 🙂 Thanks again for nudging me into it! I abbreviated the mustard’s name. It’s actually Düsseldorfer Löwensenf. Good stuff!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Tamara. 🙂 Thanks again for tagging me. I abbreviated the name of the German mustard. It’s actually called Düsseldorfer Löwensenf: Good stuff! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCsseldorfer_L%C3%B6wensenf
Great to see you blogging and answering those questions in true fun Debbie fashion. I learned some more things about you and was reminded of other wonderful posts you’ve done in the past. And I enjoyed your humour and sense of fun. Great post!
You are almost tempting me to start up my blog again and do this questionnaire. Haven’t blogged in ages.
Thanks for coming by to read the post, Cathy. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 Blogging has taken a backseat to everything else these days, so this was a fun diversion. Please do join in! It would be a great way to re-awaken your blog.
What are halcyon years?
Yours is an intriguing list, Debbie. I love reading lists. It is nice to have you back here.
The halcyon years were the good old, happy, carefree days of our youth, Myke. 🙂 I guess you could say we’re experiencing them again, to some extent, even in our “old age”. Thanks for dropping in. I’ll still be posting stuff here and there, but likely not at the same pace as before and no A to Z Challenge this year. Offline life is keeping me pretty busy. Cheers!
Okay, mine just went live, with your link appropriately at the top and various answers and pictures inappropriately strewn everywhere.
Talk about lightening speed! That’s SO impressive. If I could publish a post that fast, I’d write them more often. Thanks for participating, Chris! Yours was fun to read.
