This one pitted Seattle Heavy Metal band, Sanctuary
against Boston Hardcore (Punk) band, Slapshot

It was difficult to find covers that weren’t pale imitations of the original, so I wandered into other genres. These two were the most interesting and diverse, which makes for a good battle, but I knew some of you wouldn’t like the music. It’s impossible to please everyone, but it’s good to represent different musical styles. I might even delve into classical, in future.
For the first while, it was going back and forth, but then Sanctuary pulled ahead and stayed there. It seems, more of you preferred (or found least annoying) metal to punk.
Both versions had great intros; Sanctuary’s growling “Alice is on drugs again” and Slapshot’s drums. After that, my ears preferred Sanctuary’s vocals and overall arrangement. I didn’t like Slapshot’s increase in tempo and the vocals kept changing, which was somewhat annoying. My vote doesn’t make a difference, as Sanctuary was already far ahead.
AND THE WINNER IS:
SANCTUARY
This is another battle I thought would be closer.
Here’s the winner once more, in a live performance:

HI, Shady; Yes, we do have similar tastes in music. 🙂 We metal heads seem to be in the minority. I like to present a variety of genres, but there will always be some hard stuff thrown in, here and there. Glad you enjoyed the battle!
It was definitely different styles of music. White Rabbit is such a good song with Jefferson Airplane doing it, I don’t think anyone could compare, no matter how good they were. Do you? Grace Slick is incomparable!
Good battle Debbie.
I agree, Michele. Nobody compares to Grace Slick! I wanted to mix things up a little and be different this time. 🙂
Debbie – I apologize but I somehow missed your battle. And this is a song I like too.
Forgive me for missing out – see you in November.
HI Dixie; No worries – catch you next time. 🙂 It’s hard to keep track, sometimes.
Well, well… Look at that. Yeah, Sanctuary really killed it. But Slapshot wasn’t bad… it was just the multiple-personality vocals that annoyed me a bit 😀 But I’ve since listened to some of their other stuff and they’re gooooood—so thank you for introducing me to them. Whoever wins/loses, meeting a new band is always a plus 🙂 Thanks, Debbie!
I agree; it was Slapshot’s vocals that turned me off as well. Loved the intro, though. 😉 Always a bonus to discover a good band!
I never seem to pick a winner. Stands to reason… I was once a radio disc jockey.
I guess your tastes are out of the mainstream, Myke. 🙂 Radio DJ must have been a fun job!
I think I voted for the minority also-I have to look again. I always find it interesting who wins
Yes, you did vote for Slapshot, Birgit. I know this wasn’t your favourite battle, but hopefully, the next one will be more to your liking. 🙂
I generally like all forms of music. Even metal, punk or country. Though obviously, some forms I like more than others.
Pop and Rock are my favourites, especially 80’s. This just wasn’t one of the songs I was particularly fond of. No worries, as you say you can’t please everyone. Besides, you post a lot of battles where I love the songs.
Hi Jeffrey; I think maybe it’s a mistake to use a hugely popular original like this because none of the covers can compare, but I wanted to mix things up a little. 🙂 We’ll see what the next one brings. You won’t find too much 80s stuff here, though. Not my favourite decade for music.
Nothing like some gentle folk to start the day. 🙂 Good morning!
Good morning, Chi Chi. This is sure to wake you up! 😀
I was in the minority, but still it was a worthy Battle. I may still use this song someday, but that’s probably a long way off as I have so many other songs to use. Maybe I’ll never use it.

I’m glad you enjoyed the battle, Lee. Win some, lose some…..
Do you keep a running list of songs to use? That’s something I should start doing, as it’s a struggle to come up with something good every two weeks.
I actually set up my BOTB posts for future dates with title for easy reference and the video clips I’ll be using. I often add some additional parts to the post if I get ambitious and in a few cases even have most of the post ready to go. After that it’s just a matter of moving the started post to the date I’ll be using. Right now I’m guessing I must have 30 to 40 BOTB in my future post line-up. Problem is that I keep adding to that list as I think of more songs I’d like to use someday.

That’s a great way to do it! Sounds like you’re set for a couple of years. 🙂 Thanks for the advice.
