Gone Cruisin' 45th anniversary trip

In 2013, we embarked on an incredible journey to mark our 40th anniversary.
Five years later, wanderlust struck again!
This is a continuing series. Come along for the ride, will you?

Sept. 6, 2018

Unlike the last time, when we thought surely a curse had been placed upon our heads,
this holiday started beautifully, with a spectacular sunset!

Lucky for us, we got a rare, cheap deal on Club Class airline seats, which meant more room, extra luggage/weight allowances, great food etc., etc.  What a treat that was! And how can we possibly go back to being squeezed in like sardines again? Here’s hoping those lottery numbers come in!

We left on an overnight flight to Barcelona, arriving around noon the following day. There would be two full days to explore the city before embarking on a 24 day Mediterranean/Adriatic cruise.

This itinerary was an absolute dream! Nine countries, including 5 bucket-list destinations, plus time with family and friends in Italy.

45th anniversary trip

In the coming weeks and months (or years – there’s so much material!),
I hope to share these experiences with you.

  1. Oh how I want to go back to Europe and I will one day. I just love your pictures and you take some beautiful shots instead of the typical tourist ones.

    1. I’m sure you’ll get there, Birgit! 🙂 Thank you for the lovely comments about my photos. I do try to be a little different. Have a good week!

  2. I’m glad you were able to make this dream trip. Better you than me. I’d probably enjoy it, but I’m not excited about all the flying involved and I’m not sure about the cruise part–I’m a bit uneasy with the thought of being on a ship for any extended period of time.

In all the trip would probably be better in my mind once I’d started and then finished. The prospect just doesn’t appeal to me like a road trip within the confines of the good ol’ U.S. of A. If my expenses were all paid with first class accommodations all the way then I’d be far more open to it.

I love travelogues. Now for me that’s the way to travel to far off lands.

    1. This trip was crazy-expensive but worth every penny! The upgraded airline seats really made a difference, too, but we likely won’t be able to afford such luxuries in the future. Sigh…As for the cruise, it was like a floating 5-star hotel. My only complaint was not enough time to explore some of the locations. Also, having to get up early every day and walk for miles was fairly rugged, but, you know, we can rest when we’re dead, yes? 😀 Life is short! It’s great that the internet has opened up the entire world for armchair travel as well. Thanks for your interest! I hope to have the first travelogue finished sometime next week.

  3. Wow! What a dream vacation! The photos of your travels are incredible. You all experienced some absolutely stunning sights! I was drooling like my dog looking at your photos!
I never heard of Club Class airline. Is it for international flights only? I know you provided a link, I just haven’t gone over there yet…
Very happy for you that you were able to knock quite a few dream places off your bucket list!
Are you doing a battle tomorrow? What are you doing for Halloween? Hard to believe that it’s that time of year again!

If you’re going out tonight, have fun! Be careful…

    1. Hi Michele; I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Just getting warmed up, here! 😀 “Club Class” is a term used by Canadian Airline, Air Transat, for its first or business class service. I NEVER want to go back to economy again after this, but it’s usually super expensive. We lucked out and got a great deal!

Halloween is a non-event around here! 😛 I think you know why. LOL “Bark bark bark”…. It was fun in our younger days, but we haven’t done anything to mark the occasion in years. How about you?

I’m sticking to the once-a-month on the 15th BOTB schedule because I want this blog to be about different subjects, not just that. Twice a month, plus the results posts would be too difficult to accommodate, in addition to other types of posts. Are you doing a BOTB tomorrow? If so, I’ll be sure to check it out!

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂 I hope your shoulder is getting better and better every day. Happy Hump Day!

  4. I don’t have much of a bucket list, strangely enough. There is one thing that I absolutely have to do, or I’ll die (sooner or later) and that is go to Rome this coming February. Our Church is dedicating its first Italian temple. They announced its construction just 3 months after I left Italy; I’d been waiting for 31 years for a temple in Italy. All I have to do is, like you said, win the lottery. sigh…
I’m so glad you had a good start at least. I can’t wait to read the rest. You have my number in case you ever get the urge to blurt it out to someone ahead of time 😉 .

    1. Hi Mary; I remember reading something about that a while ago. Maybe the church could sponsor you as an emissary, or teacher? Just an idea…

I’ve been posting photos on Instagram and Facebook if you’re interested in more of our trip. These travelogues take a long time to write, plus, I’m slow. 😉 Thanks for dropping in!
