WELCOME BACK TO BOTB! It’s time to announce the results of theOct. 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bandsis where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Please note: Effective July 2017, some of us switched to once a month on the 15th. Others may opt to continue with twice a month.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
First, let me say this was a last-minute entry, as I’d forgotten it was coming up. See what happens when you take a month-long vacation? (More about that below.)
Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to have competing covers that were radically different. Well, that pretty much backfired!
Most of you preferred Rod Stewart’s traditional, emotional rendition, as did I. Richie Haven’s unique interpretation did get a few votes, so thankfully, no shutout. Here’s how it went down:

So glad that Rod won: his version is so good (and I love that video for that song with the adorable little redhead boy).
“Grace” is a beautiful song as well.
WOW, Rod clobbered Richie in this round. I sided with the loser but that’s okay. It was loads of fun. Oh you lucky girl to see Rod Stewart live in concert!
I’m surprised it was such a clearcut victory, as I enjoyed the other version as well.
Have you heard the Robbie Williams version live from the Royal Albert Hall? It uses original footage of Frank Sinatra for part of the song. I find it quite emotional.
Wow! I think Richie Havens is an acquired taste perhaps? Maybe his style just doesn’t make a good fit for this song. I liked his stuff from the Woodstock concert.
