Some of you may know that in the offline world, I run a home boarding business for dogs. Yes, it’s a regular Canine Commune, a “Happy Hound Vacation Destination”, so to speak. 😀
The dogs have the run of my house and, while I stipulate they must be house trained, as you can imagine, accidents do happen.
Dogs are also not shy about throwing up, any time, anywhere, but mostly on carpet. (That must be an unwritten rule in the dog world!)
It has been my quest, for years now, to find the perfect solution for pet odours and stains.
There are dozens of products on the market and of those, the enzyme-based ones work fairly well, but from my experience, are not 100% effective.
This is particularly troublesome when it comes to urine scent. If it’s not completely eliminated, another dog will pick up on it and may decide to leave its own mark there. Imagine this with multiple dogs in residence!
Here's something so good I just had to share! Effective, yet gentle. #dogladysden #dogsitter Share on X
Although I’m not in the habit of writing reviews, Rick Gregory, of Gregory Ventures, introduced me to an effective product that, when used as directed, not only removes pet stains and odours but is also environmentally friendly and made by a company dedicated to philanthropy.
How often does one come across something so ideal and share-worthy? Before going any further, please be aware that I have received free samples, but this is my honest opinion.
Truth be told, at first, it didn’t seem to work any better than other products, but I was in a hurry and didn’t bother reading the directions. It was only after using it a few more times that I became convinced how good it actually is!
What is this miracle product?

In addition to pet stains and odours, I have also used Helios (now GVX) on coffee and other food stains with equally good results. Those are common uses, but how many people have experienced the mess left by a feral cat, stuck in an office?

Imagine coming to work Monday morning, opening your office door and gasping as your nose and lungs go into fight-or-flight-shutdown because of the reeking stench of 2 1/2 days worth of cat urine and feces. It happened. Not to me, fortunately.
A colleague, who worked for a carpet cleaning/maintenance company told me the story. It was his client from an oil refinery in Torrance, CA, who indeed suffered that fateful Monday morning.
The refinery exec called the carpet cleaners to come and rescue them, which they did (the cat escaped, by the way) . . . using the best cleaning and odor-abating technology they had.
After their work the stains and odors appeared to be gone. Until the humidity went up again. They couldn’t identify where the stains were, but the odor was definitely back.
Here’s where the “fortunately for us” comes in. They used Helios to clean the office carpet. And yes, the stains are completely gone – but better yet, the odor was gone and has yet to return. It won’t. It’s been 7 months now.
This is what’s so beautiful about Helios. Unlike all the enzyme products on the market, the tea tree oil in the Helios encapsulates the uric acid crystals, rendering them incapable of producing bacteria that create the odors.
The Helios dries to a very fine (it’s tough to see it unless you REALLY drench the carpet) white powder, which gets vacuumed up, taking the uric acid crystals (the urine residue) with it.
Nothing else on the market like Helios.
With other cleaners, the smell always returned during humid weather, as mentioned in the story.

It’s always good to hear of environmentally friendly products that are effective.
I love the photos of your house guests!
This is the best product I’ve used so far, Clowie. Yes, the houseguests are adorable, aren’t they? 😀 Thanks for dropping in today.
Hi Debbie,
This is a great review. When it’s raining the dogs won’t go out to do their business and sometimes there are accidents. The cleaners I use don’t really get rid of the ordo so I’m going to check out this product.
Hope you’re having a great week so far :).
Thanks, Corina! 🙂 I had the same experience with other cleaners. This one is not only more effective, but also safe. Some of them can cause allergic reactions. We’re still freezing up here! 😛 Hope you’re week is going well.
I am SO glad you found an environmentally friendly and pet-friendly product too to use for such an important, ahem, issue! And great that they are philanthropic too…that’s just a bonus! 😉 <3
I know, Elly – it’s all good! 🙂 That’s why I stepped away from my usual fare to do this review. It really does work, too.
I’ll share this with my friends who have pets… 🙂
Thanks. It’s worked well for me and has many other uses, like as a laundry stain remover.
Sounds like a great product – thanks for the review!
It is and so versatile! I was attracted also by the company’s commitment to charities.
Good information. Glad my dogs only come inside when it is cold outside. That is the only time we can coax then indoors.
Glad your dogs are keeping warm, Myke! 🙂 We have a revolving cast of characters here, but they’re all of the indoor variety. Thanks for visiting.
Thanks for the review Debbie. Always looking for effective pet odor removal products. And the dogs look so happy and content! Great photos!
Hi Michele; This product works better than anything else I’ve tried and believe me, I’ve tried most! Glad you enjoyed the photos. The dogs all enjoy their “Happy Hound” vacations here. 🙂
Thanks for this review Debbie! I’m definitely going to check it out. Having a male dog in the household who is very protective, makes having a dry carpet very hard. If something outside disturbs him, he will do little marking on the couches. Really sux but I can’t blame him. It’s better than tearing up furniture, right? Anywho, I’ve tried everything to get the odor out, even after shampoo’ing the rugs. Grrrr. Heading over now to check it out on Amazon. Thanks again for sharing it!
Marking on furniture – been there! 😛 Helios should solve your problem, as it has mine, Bren. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for trying it.
Very interesting that they use Tea Tree Oil. I would be interested in seeing the label for all the ingredients and wondering if the company sends out samples.
Hi Carol; Yes, and it’s very effective. The Tea Tree Oil smell disappears once it’s dry.
The website lists all the ingredients:
You will also find contact information, if you wish to ask them for samples.
HI Carol,
Yes, “the company” sends out samples! Shoot me an email at rgregory@gvpure.com and I’ll get a sample off to you!
Your sample is in the mail! Looking forward to hearing your response!
Thanks, Rick. 🙂
It does sound like a great product, alright. Luckily we don’t get accidents on the carpet too often. The only problem we have is Daisy peeing on any fabrics left on the floor of the breezway/mudroom. Very peculiar how she has peed on coats and towels if they were on the floor. Hubs was very upset. Don’t know what causes this strange behaviour as she is a sweet well adjusted cat otherwise. I’ll keep that product in mind should she decide to strike again. Can you use it to wash fabrics?
Hi Cathy; I used to know a Jack Russell who did the same thing! Strange habit, for sure. I’ve never tried it in the wash, but let me check into that. It’s the most effective product I’ve found for carpet and floor cleaning, though.
Hi Cathy! You can absolutely use Helios on fabrics as a pre-spray before washing. You’ll be blown away at how effective it is in removing all trace of urine odors from any of Hubs’ coats or towels. We’ve got other customers who use it to take away grass stains from their teenagers’ (they have triplets) baseball uniforms. Or when your trash can starts stinking . . . just a few squirts around the perimeter and the odor is gone!
Thanks for the tips, Rick! I’ll definitely try it in the wash and around the garbage can.
Thanks for the tips, Rick. Sounds like a great product! 🙂
I was sooooo blessed and lucky that when Phoenix finally had run of the house he never had an accident. He did however hurl a few times and I used Nature’s Miracle. Thank you for the info on Helios! That last picture with the gang all on the couch is not on a feat in animal photography it is also priceless, Debbie! Have a great week! 🙂
Hi Mike; Phoenix was a good boy! 🙂 Tasha never had an accident either, until she got very old. I used Nature’s Miracle too, for many years, but Helios does a better job. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Some dogs like to pose. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by. I’ll check out your post in the morning. Goodnight.
Helios is a great product that has made my life as a Canine Innkeeper so much easier. Give it a try! 🙂
