Terri Webster Schrandt‘s blogfest theme this week is:
BUCKET LIST ITEMSMy list consists mainly of travel destinations and concerts, most of which have been crossed off by now, as I’m fast approaching my 70th birthday. Post-pandemic travel holds little appeal (too expensive, too complicated, too exhausting, plus, we don’t want to leave our dog), so I’ll be content with that. Concerts, on the other hand… still way too expensive but, I can’t resist!

🪣 TOP TRAVEL DESTINATIONS 🪣
As an ancient history buff, Greece, Italy, Malta and Egypt were at the top of my bucket list since childhood! Lucky for me, I married an Italian who has relatives in Rome and in Bari, so we’ve visited Italy on several occasions.
There was never time for Greece until 2013, when we finally booked a two-week tour to commemorate our 40th anniversary. That first glimpse of the Parthenon brought tears of joy!
We made it to Malta in 2018, but it was only a two-day stop on a Mediterranean/Adriatic cruise. I was thrilled to be there at all, but yearn to go back and spend more time.

Egypt didn’t happen and likely never will, but I’m okay with that. To paraphrase Meatloaf: Three Out of Four Ain’t Bad! There are dozens more places on the travel bucket list, but that list has been retired, for now, just like us. Barring a lottery windfall, of course! 😉

🪣 TOP CONCERTS 🪣
As I may have mentioned, a time or two (or ad nauseam 😆), concerts are my “Fountain of Youth” and favourite form of entertainment. Bands on the bucket list include Metallica, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart and many more. Those have all been crossed off, some several times.
There are still a few bands I’d like to see and this bucket list will NOT be retired any time soon! We have had to cut back, though. Since the pandemic, concert prices have skyrocketed! 😫

These were all amazing! You definitely have ticked some things off the list
Thank you, Kirstin! 🙂 Yes, we have been fortunate in checking off so many bucket list destinations. And it’s fun to relive those memories with the travelogues on the blog.
A wonderful bucket list. Beautiful shots.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Debbie. Love and hugs. ♥
Thank you, Sandee! 🙂 I appreciate the linking opportunity. Have a lovely weekend! 🥂
I love seeing the incredible places you’ve visited. I hope to travel a lot one day. 🙂 ❤️
We had a good time travelling through Europe, but those days are over for now. Prices have become prohibitive, plus we don’t want to leave our dog for that long. It’s fun to relive the memories, though! 😀 I hope all of your travel dreams come true, Kymber!
You have been blessed to see some incredible places abroad. When we win the lottery, I think we would like to take a European vacation. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure DH erases the camcorder tape before we travel, though. 🤣 You’ve seen some amazing legendary bands in concerts, too. While I’m not a fan of heavier rock music, I do like some of the music by these groups you’ve seen. My daughter in Maine is a lot like you. She loves to travel, going to rock concerts, and is a creative writer. The last one she and her fiancé went to in Boston was to see Metallica (I think). I’m so glad you’ve gotten to do many of your Bucket Lists items. 🙂
Yes, we were indeed fortunate to travel so extensively. 🙂 Those days are behind us now, and like you, we’d be looking for a lottery win to do more. 😆 At least we can still manage the occasional concert. Your daughter and I do seem to have a lot in common, but I’m probably old enough to be her grandmother. 😜
It was fun to look at your travel and concert list. I keep getting ads for an Egypt trip but it is very expensive, and perhaps, too close to the war zone in Gaza.
Thanks for coming by, Mary! 🙂 Travel costs are insane now and I wouldn’t visit Egypt, anyway. Definitely too dangerous!
Love your bucket list! It sounds amazing that you got to see the Parthenon—what a special moment! I totally get the struggle with post-pandemic travel, but it’s great to cherish the memories we’ve made. Hope you get to catch a few more concerts soon! Your photos are gorgeous!
Thanks, Veronica! 🙂 Yes, visiting the Parthenon was my lifetime dream-come-true! 💖 I’m glad we have such wonderful memories now, since international travel has become so inconvenient and expensive.
I never had a bucket list, but I always wanted to see Rome, ancient Egypt, and wild animals in Africa. I managed all three between 1983 and 2002. Like you, I am content now, and have no real urge to travel now I am old.
I’m so jealous about Egypt! That was on my bucket list forever, but we never got there. Africa must have been fascinating too and Rome, of course, which I also love. Travel has become less comfortable and more expensive since the pandemic. Road trips will do, for now. 🙂 Thanks for coming by, Pete.
We didn’t get to see Cairo and The Pyramids. We went to Luxor for a few days, followed by a 5-day Nile cruise south to Aswan. The trip also included a one-day tour of Abu Simbel (we flew there), which was amazing. It was in December 1989, and served as a late honeymoon for my second marriage in the July of that year. 🐪
Sounds like a wonderful trip, even if you didn’t get to Cairo. Luxor and Abu Simbel must have been fabulous! 😍
Wow! Your concert list is long! I am not that into music and might never go to another concert although I would consider the Country Jamboree, or whatever it is called now, down at Craven, Sask. But only for one day and seems all the headliners start at like 10:30 it’s unlikely. Travel is more my thing so those spots you’ve been to look great. The Mediterranean Sea is amazing!
Concerts are my favourite form of recreation and my Fountain of Youth. 😀 We have done a lot of travelling in the past, but are not so keen on it now, with the post-pandemic prices. The entire Mediterranean and Adriatic areas are amazing! 💖
You are such a well-seasoned traveler and concertgoer Debbie. Your photos of your travels are beautiful – I looked at each one. I will have your Greek Odyssey trip to look at – I did not forget. The contractor is finally done tomorrow – thank goodness. I’m used to it just being me. I’m with you on post-pandemic travel – not the same as it was in the past. Too many worries and I understand so many main tourist attractions are so busy and overcrowded that people cannot get near them or queue up for hours on end for tickets and then the event. After hearing of a fellow bloggers Viking Long Ship issues this Summer due to the Danube overflowing so they were shuttled from each port city by bus and stayed in hotels, plus the recent floods in Spain, I guess I will be content that I traveled while the goin’ was good. It has been decades for me to go to a concert, so I was clueless of the prices these days – sadly everything is expensive since the pandemic.
Thank you, Linda! 🙂 Glad to know the contractor is finished now. It’s always a pain to have people working around the house. Yes, travel has become way too expensive and much less comfortable than it used to be. We are happy taking little road trips here and there with our dog. She loves the car! As long as I can go to two or three concerts in a year, I’ll be happy. We just went to the last one on Oct. 26 (Iron Maiden) and had a wonderful time.
When we did our traveling, it was before climate change settled in and has ruined a lot of travel – horribly hot Summers and no A/C over there. I’m sorry we won’t fulfil all the places we wanted to see (for me Rome, Paris and Alaska) but at least we got to see more than some people (taking a glass half-full attitude here). Domestic travel is good too. I have only been to Ontario in my homeland.
We usually went to Europe in September, when it was less crowded and not as hot. More places do have A/C now. I would love to go back to Malta and see more of Spain, but c’est la vie. Yes, domestic travel would be good too, but still expensive. Hotel prices have tripled since the pandemic. I’ve only seen parts of Ontario and Quebec, but would like to go out west to Vancouver. I lived in Europe 1965-69 (Germany, plus one year at boarding school in Switzerland), which afforded many travel opportunities. I’m grateful for all of them, including Paris, Versailles, Copenhagen, the Italian Riviera and the Canary Islands. Glass is definitely half full – more like three quarters! 🙂
I would not mind traveling more but leaving the dog is difficult, as it is for you. You’ve seen a lot of great places though. I recognize some of the places in Greece and Italy that we’ve been to. We are not as much into concerts. It is obvious you love those.
Yes, I am reluctant to leave our dog behind for too long. She’s a rescue who was abandoned at a young age and she would surely be upset. Us too! Italy and Greece are both magical countries and I’m so glad I had the chance to go there! As for concerts, they are my drug of choice. 😉
You have been to some amazing areas, Debbie! We definitely want to see Greece, Rome and some of Europe (Scottland and Germany top my list), but we have a dog and we’re on a bit of a budget until our social security kicks in. I would be satisfied with an Alaskan cruise (very close to home)! I love that you are still attending concerts. I read that Baby Boomers are still the wealthiest generation, and concerts like you shared are full of gray-haired rockers reliving their own glory days! I was thrilled when I saw Heart in San Diego years ago–I cried!
Yes, before we got Zoey, we travelled extensively, but it’s become too expensive and difficult now. I have seen some excellent deals advertised for Alaskan Cruises, though! I can imagine all the wonderful Northern Lights photos you would take. 🙂 We Baby Boomers definitely love our concerts. Always plenty of grey heads in the audience.:D Heart is an amazing live band! (They were on the bucket list too, but I didn’t want to make the post too long). We’ve attended four of their concerts in the last 15 years. This was the last one in 2019:
When you can’t travel, at least concerts come to you, and they’re a joy. They’re expensive, as you said. The prices are too high even in the nose bleeds but I indulge occasionally.
Love,
Janie
Concerts are a joy, Janie! 😀 I wish the prices were more affordable too. Smaller venues are usually cheaper and we’ve been to a few like that.
So very cool. Love these pics.
Thanks, Patrick! 🙂
Great bucket list! Here’s to enjoying all those places.
Yes, we were lucky to cross most of them off. 🙂 Too bad post-pandemic travel is so expensive and uncomfortable. Thanks for coming by!
Good you made it to most of the places on your bucket list, Debbie. Sounds like they were wonderful trips. I’m not sure what I have on my bucket list now as far as travel goes. Glad I got to Australia in 2019. That was on my list. I think now getting my novel finished and into the world is important for my bucket list even if hardly anyone reads it. It’s important to finish the bloody thing. I’ve already spent money on courses and spent so much time working on it. But I still drag my feet with the Inner Critic telling me not to bother as no one cares. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Cathy! 🙂 Australia was on my bucket list too, but we never made it. Glad you did, though! I remember seeing your photos on Facebook about that trip. Finishing and publishing your novel is certainly something worth doing. And I know you’re an excellent writer, so throw that Inner Critic out the door! 😉 I’ve toyed with the idea of publishing my memoirs, but the whole process seems way too complicated and laborious.
