Welcome back to #BOTB!
Time to announce the results of the August 1st showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
♫ This contest featured blues/rock artists from opposite sides of the Atlantic. ♫
The Jeff Beck Group started off strong and I was regretting using the original artist! Not to worry, though. Joe Bonamassa soon caught up and it became a close battle. Here’s how you voted :
THE JEFF BECK GROUP:
Angelika, Shady, Arlee, Diedre, Angel Stew, Cherdo, Janie, Birgit, Stephen, DiscConnected
TOTAL: 10
~~~~~
JOE BONAMASSA:
Cathy, Cathy’s DH, Mary, John, Michele, Guilie, Pat, Myke, Mike
TOTAL: 9
Many of you liked both versions and that’s my problem, too. Rod and Joe both have those sexy, raspy voices, perfect for the blues. Jeff and Joe are equally phenomenal guitarists. How to choose? I listened to each recording several times and felt like I should flip a coin! Since I’m a sucker for guitar virtuosity, my final choice is Joe Bonamassa, only because his brilliance was evident throughout. Jeff’s best work came about 3/4 of the way through. I did enjoy the piano riffs, though.
and the winner is:
THE JEFF BECK GROUP: 10 VOTES | JOE BONAMASSA: 10 VOTES
There’s no live performance video of the Jeff Beck Group doing “Blues Deluxe”, but here’s a reunion between Jeff and Rod, decades later. Joe has many live videos to choose from. Check out this smokin’ performance from 2013:
Don’t forget to check back with the others for their BOTB results:
Angels Bark / Cherdo On The Flipside / Curious as a Cathy / DC Relief BOTB / DiscConnected / J.A. Scott / Janie Junebug Righting & Editing / Jingle Jangle Jungle / Mike’s Ramblings / Quiet Laughter / Sound of One Hand Typing / Host: StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands / Tossing It Out / Your Daily Dose
NEXT BATTLE OF THE BANDS WILL BE AUGUST 15th. SEE YOU THERE!
Was this the outcome you expected or were you surprised?
Looking forward to your comments!
Until next time.
ROCK ON!
Excellent Battle with a logical outcome, Debbie.
Thank you, Stephen! 🙂 I agree; a tie was the only choice here.
Debbie, you’re not alone. I love beautiful guitar riffs and Joe does a fantastic job. He’s got it in his blood. Oh well, I like Rod also, but I’ll take Joe any day.
Shalom aleichem,
Patricia
Hi, Pat; Joe is amazing, that’s for sure! Jeff Beck is no slouch either and I’ve always loved Rod. A tie was the logical outcome, here. 🙂
P.S. I loved your story for “The Garden” blogfest, but was unable to leave a comment. Revisiting a childhood home can be both cathartic and depressing.
Debbie,
That post is not live yet. I don’t know why it came up but it will be published on the 17th which is Wednesday of this week. It is for the WEP, and I set it up so that I don’t have to do it at the last minute.
Also, I have two twitter accounts. The one that I use the most is the one with my pen name, @pat_garcia. So, please use that one even though I did accept your follow on the other account.
Hope you are fine, Lady.
Greetings out of good old Germany.
Shalom aleichem,
Pat
It must have been set to live preview or something. Anyway, I thought it was excellent! 🙂 I think I’ve been using the right twitter account, but don’t actually remember now. It’s late here. Gute Nacht und gute Woche!
Well… butter my butt, and call me a bum.
That’s a disturbing mental image, Angelika. 😀 I think a tie was the only logical conclusion here.
A tie? That was a squeeker that needed squelched. Truthfully, I could have gone either way. It’s hard to chose sometimes…okay, I do love Jeff Beck…maybe it’s not hard to chose. I’m having commitment issues where musicians are concerned, ha ha .
Great battle, Debbie!
Hi, Cherdo; I think a tie was the only conclusion for this one. 🙂 It was tempting to flip a coin. Glad you enjoyed the battle.
This is excellent! I think they are both great so I’m glad that there was a tie. It is just brilliant to see both greats at play
Thanks, Birgit. A tie was the logical conclusion, here. 🙂
That was a well-matched battle. Good job.
Lee
Thanks, Lee. Close battles are the most fun. 🙂
I feel a tie was in order here. Nothing bad about it, at all.
Yes, I think that was the logical outcome, here. Thanks, Myke! 🙂
A tie! sounds like your battle was as much a nailbiter as mine was! Tough decisions, for sure!
Yes, it was tough to pick one – they were both outstanding. Close battles are the most fun! 🙂
Debbie, A TIE! What a bummer, man!! Good battle, though. I’ve gotten close a time or two where I thought my battles would be a tie, but then someone casts the deciding vote and I’m relieved that I didn’t have to do it. lol 😀
Hi, Cathy; I think a tie is the only logical outcome for this one. 🙂 Both versions were great and it was hard for many of us to choose one.
Excellent battle Debbie. Congrats on your tie! That rocks when that happens.
I really like Joe Bonamassa. Great live performance you posted here! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Michele at Angels Bark
Thanks, Michele. 🙂 I think a tie is the perfect outcome, here. Joe B. is one of the greats!
That’s what happens when you have two super sounds competing!
Very true, C. Lee. Thanks for dropping in. 🙂
