#WATWB We are the World BlogfestToday, I’m joining the We Are The World Blogfest (#WATWB), which posts on the last Friday of every month.

Started by Belinda Witzenhausen and  Damyanti Biswas and aided by a series of co-hosts (⭐), their credo is to bring light into an otherwise dark world by sharing links to inspirational stories.

(⭐This month’s co-hosts: Damyanti Biswas, Shilpa Garg, Mary Giese Lizbeth Hartz, Sylvia Stein.)

We Are the World Blogfest seeks to promote positive news. There are many cases of love and light out there, stories that show compassion and the resilience of the human spirit. Sharing these stories increases our awareness of hope…

ANIMALS NEED OUR HELP TOO!

There’s a movement afoot, fuelled by artistic communities throughout the world.
A few examples:

NATURE THROUGH ART

An inaugural Nature Through Art event in Toronto on Oct. 24/19 raised well over $100,000 for the Canadian Wildlife Federation, one of the country’s oldest and largest conservation organizations.

The evening was the brainchild of contemporary Toronto artist Gina Godfrey, who had a few of her own prints up for sale, along with the work of acclaimed wildlife painter Robert Bateman and renowned Postmedia cartoonist Andy Donato. READ MORE ►

HeARTS SPEAK

Artists Helping Animals is HeARTs Speak’s seminal program that currently includes a network of nearly 600 professional artists working in a variety of mediums, who provide their services pro bono or donate their work to animal shelters, rescues, and advocacy groups.

ARTS FOR ANIMALS

Arts for Animals is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of endangered species through education and creative inspiration. It sprang from a desire shared by artist Anne London, and her husband, Jim Hart, to do something concrete to save the wildlife they had grown to love.

  1. Debbie, thanks for sharing these stories of artists and animals for January’s #WATWB. It’s so good to know that artists are reflecting the value of saving animals and giving them a home or a place to be free through their works. We do share the planet and it’s our duty to take care of both humans and animals in need of our love and attention.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the stories, Mary! 🙂 These artists are doing wonderful things in regards to animal welfare. Thank you for coming by and for being part of the WATWB hosting committee. Cheers!

  2. Hi Debbie – these were great to see … especially the Zimbabwe one … just love that country. Wild animals and all animals deserve our respect and our help to give them a chance in life. All the animals – those shelters, Anne London and her husband, and the first one – the art for sale fundraising – I saw the Robert Batemen gallery when I was in Victoria … good luck to each and every cause – cheers Hilary

    1. It’s great that artists all over the world are doing so much for the animals. Anne London is quite amazing! She’s right that endangered species are a world problem. Thank you for reading my article, Hilary. 🙂 Cheers!

  3. This is such an important cause. Animals need all the help we can give them. May there come a day when all companion animals are adopted from shelters and humans come to appreciate all life on this planet.

  4. So wonderful. Bless them all.

Hubby and I always did rescue pups. They need us the most.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Debbie. ♥

  5. Great post. I had a friend who decorated her dining room in elegant dog paintings. They were beautiful., all garage sale finds. One turned out to be quite valuable.

    1. It’s always nice to learn a garage sale item is actually valuable! 🙂 I would love a dining room filled with elegant dog paintings. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for coming by!

  6. Awareness of animals through Art is so significant and pretty influential. I read what Andy Donato said, and his distress at the whales. South Africa is a great animal loving country, and there are 1000’s of organisations who do whatever they can to protect both domestic animals and wild life, as well as the seas and landscapes. Thanks Debbie, great #WATWB

    1. It’s wonderful how widespread these animal rescue initiatives are! 🙂 Promoting them through art is a beautiful way to do it. Thank you for reading my entry. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  7. What beautiful offerings by these talented artists, and how generous of them, to raise so much money to benefit wildlife in Canada! Thanks for sharing this inspirational post, and I loved the artwork too.
