KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR – #BOTB RESULTS

19 CommentsBattle of the Bands (BOTB), Blogfests, Music

Welcome back!  It’s time to announce results for the July 15th BOTB post.

Battle of the Bands BOTB Knockin' on Heaven's Door

BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by Far Away Series and  StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.

This one pitted Chicago singer/songwriter/musician, Warren Zevon
against British singer/songwriter, Rachel Rabin, professionally known as Raign.

Talk about a decisive victory! Raign didn’t stand a chance. A few of you did like her and so do I, but not enough to surpass Warren. His rendition has always touched me deeply, so I joined with the majority. That said, Raign’s dramatic approach and deep voice does appeal to me.

AND THE WINNER IS:

WARREN ZEVON

By three-quarters of the vote.
An even bigger victory than last time!

  1. Everyone cheer, the crowd goes wild! ZEVON! ZEVON! ZEVON!

I have to admit…I love Warren Zevon (“Keep Me In Your Heart” is one of my all time favorite songs).

  2. Glad he won and am not surprised nor am I of the amount because I had read some of the comments. Great BOTB because it opens my mind and ears to different styles

    1. Warren was my choice as well. 🙂 I am surprised that Raign didn’t get more votes because I actually like her style and voice. Obviously not a popular view! Thanks for coming by, Birgit.

  3. Well, I had a hunch Warren would win, but I didn’t think it would be by so much! Raign does appeal to me because I love dramatic music and deep voices. Glad to have found her!

  4. I thought that Warren would win, but I’m surprised it’s by so much.

I’m looking forward to your next choice for the “battle”.

    1. I was surprised too, Clowie. Although Warren was my choice, Raign’s version did appeal to me as well and I thought more people would like her. You never know! 🙂

  5. DEBBIE ~
It seems there were a number of blowouts in this round of BOTB. Oh well, so it goes sometimes. Hopefully we’ll have some closer outcomes next time. See ya then!

  6. Sorry I missed the contest, but that was a really nice version – I hadn’t heard it before. I have fond memories of rocking out to the Guns ‘n’ Roses version at my primary school disco. 🙂

    1. Hi Nick; Nice to see you! 🙂 The GnR version was the most popular, I think. What makes Warren’s so poignant is the fact that he was literally dying when he recorded it. He never lost his sense of humour. (Can you tell I’m a fan? 🙂 )
If you’re interested, these Battle of the Bands posts run every 1st and 15th of the month. Thanks for coming by.

    1. You got it! 😀 Great excuse to play the song. My favourite line: “I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic’s.
      His hair was perfect.”

  7. Yay for Warren! I did like Raign; like I said before, hadn’t ever heard of her, so I’m glad I found new music to expand my horizons. But Warren deserved this win 🙂 Great battle, Debbie! (Off to post my results now 😉 )

    1. I’m not surprised Warren won, but Raign has that deep contralto that I also find attractive. Glad you enjoyed the battle, Guilie. My next one will feature Ennio. 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
