Unforeseen Circumstances

Well, damn! I was working on what was supposed to be a lovely tour of Tuscany, scheduled for today, when I saw there was an update for my website theme…

I rue the day I clicked on that! For whatever reason, the designers decided to make some major changes, which totally screwed up my site’s display!

Being the pedantic perfectionist I am, compelled me to fix it IMMEDIATELY, which resulted in several tension-filled days and sleep-deprived nights. And, the travelogue is only half-finished.

Rather than pressuring myself to finish it in time, I am taking a mini blogging break to de-stress.

In typical Canadian fashion, 😉 I apologize for the delay (even though it wasn’t my doing, nobody probably cares, anyway). I hope you will come back next Monday, Oct. 18, to take the tour.

  1. You’re killing me, though not for the reason you might think. I’m laughing because that’s what I had to do a few years ago when some stupid WP update totally killed my theme and made me go to another one a day or two later. Right now there’s a WP update that I’m refusing to load because I don’t want it messing with my current theme, which is a WP theme, knowing that it’s going to delete everything I’ve added to the coding… which is ridiculous! I feel your frustration.

    1. That truly sucks, Mitch! ? The thing is, I use a child theme, which is supposed to prevent losing your stylings when the theme updates. In this case, the designers made some major structural changes, which still messed everything up. ? Fortunately, I make a habit of copying my css onto a document and saving it. As added protection, the child theme files have now been downloaded as well. Maybe you could do something like that before updating?

      1. I’m also using a child theme, along with the WP 14 theme. The previous time I updated it, the update wiped out my Analytics code, which took me 3 months to figure out (I don’t check as often as I should).

  2. ‘Tis the season to be bugged! No worries. We’ll all be anxiously waiting for you to return refreshed and ready to take on the world 😉

  3. Tuscany, Italy??? Are you planning to come to Europe, or was it supposed to be a post about a past trip? Either way, I’m sorry technology messed up your plans!
For what it’s worth: My car (that was in the shop for scheduled maintenance AND to install the steerance that was overdue since my accident back in May) wouldn’t start. Battery empty. Also, error codes F1 and E21 on the dishwasher. There’s more, but I’ll spare you. Actually, I might do a blog post.

    1. No travel plans in our immediate future, Tamara. I am writing travelogues for that 24-day Meditteranean & Adriatic cruise we took for our 45th anniversary in 2018. Finally finished the one for Tuscany! ?

Sorry you’re still having car troubles. Sucks to have issues with any piece of equipment! 🙁 I hope all will be resolved for you, soon. Looking forward to your post about it!

  4. Debbbbbb, Mercury Retrograde has been giving so many of us technical grief – particularly with our blogs and Facebook. I don’t blame you. I spent the weekend trying to RE connect my printer to my laptop. Nonsensical I tell ya! Enjoy your break. 🙂

  5. Poor Debbie! Sounds completely aggravating and so out of your control! Hopefully you can get back on track and finish your post for next time. All the best!

      1. I sure know that aggravating feeling when technology fails us for whatever reason. Maddening. Good you can laugh about it now.

  6. Debbie,

These things happen, unfortunately. Sometimes a little break away from it all is a huge help in the end. I’ll be looking forward to your post whenever you get around to presenting it, my dear. Have a good day! 😉
