WELCOME BACK TO BOTB!
It’s time to announce the results of the Mar. 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bandsis where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Please note: Effective July 2017, I switched to once a month on the 15th only. This will allow me more time to share other types of material with you.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
Firstly, apologies for not responding (yet) to all your lovely comments on the battle post. March is one of my busiest months offline and time just ran out. That said, there was a better than usual turnout and I thank you!
As for the battle, I’m happy to report the blowout curse seems to be over. It could have gone either way, but my vote went to Julie and Brian. Their version was the first one I heard and loved while living in Europe. In fact, I didn’t know it was a Bob Dylan song or that The Band had recorded it until years later.
The next time I heard it was while watching Absolutely Fabulous on Canadian TV in the 1990s, recorded by Julie and Adrian Edmondson. Kylie’s rendition for the 2011 movie didn’t do much for me, as I’m not a fan of pop music in general and “pop princess” style voices in particular. Here’s how it played out:
JULIE DRISCOLL F. BRIAN AUGER & THE TRINITY
Birgit, Cherdo, Christopher, Debbie, Jade Li, Mary, Mike, Nilanjana, Stephen
Total: 9
~~~~~~~~
KYLIE MINOGUE
Arlee, Cathy, John, Myke, Roland, Sandee
Total: 6
AND THE WINNER IS,
JULIE DRISCOLL F. BRIAN AUGER & THE TRINITY
Here’s the winner again, from a 1968 TV performance:
Congrats on the winner! Sorry for participating in this round, been busy at work (it’s the end of the school year) and the play I am involved in opens next weekend. I will be sure to check out April 1st’s BOTB!
Sorry you missed it, but thanks for coming by. Hope your workload gets a little easier. ☺️ As mentioned above, I only do BOTB once a month, on the 15th, with other types of material in between. Cheers!
Congratulations on a close contest. For me, it was first time to hear each recording.
Thanks! 🙂 I’m glad I was able to introduce you to something you hadn’t heard before.
It was close and the outcome works for me even though I didn’t vote for the winner. Overall, Julie Brian and the Trinity would be my favorite artist of the two offered.
Tossing It Out
I’m glad you’re happy with the results, Lee. 🙂 Julie and Brian were very popular back in the day.
Debbie,
I was on the wrong side of the contest but I still like my pick the best. Thanks for sharing how things went down in this round of BoTB, my dear. Have a furtastic weekend!
Oh well; you can’t win ’em all. 🙂 We each have different tastes in music and that’s what makes these battles so interesting. Thanks for participating in mine. Cheers!
I’m really glad the Battle outcome had Brian Auger winning. That would have been shameful if such a top-notch musician lost out to some run-of-the-mill, prepackaged, synthetic “Pop Princess”.
Nicely done!
DEBBIE, I think your “Blowout Curse” attached itself to me, and that’s the reason you are currently refreshingly free of it. I need to find someone else now, whom I can pass this cursed contagion onto. 🙂 I’m not used to BOTB Blowouts, and they just ain’t much fun.
Now, let’s see, who should I stick with this disease? Decisions, decisions, decisions…
We are in total agreement about this outcome, Stephen. 😀 Sorry about your blowout. 🙁 Yes, please pass the curse on to somebody else. Don’t bring it back here! 😉
Please get me another cup of coffee this morning. I didn’t even see my name. I see it now.
Have a great day. ♥
😀
I thought I voted in this contest? Well apparently I didn’t. Bugger.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥
Hi Sandee; You did vote, for Kylie, as mentioned above. Thanks for coming by and have a good weekend. 🙂
