Welcome back to #BOTB!
Time to announce the results of the May 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
It seems my bad luck with battle results continues, even after a 4-month hiatus. The lower than usual turnout out didn’t help much either. Oh well! I like to try and find covers that are entirely different from one another and maybe the diversity is a bit too jarring.
Most of you preferred the ‘smooth jazz’ rendition by Lisa Bassenge, but thankfully, there were some votes for My Secret Island. This was a bit of a tough decision for me! Neither vocal impressed, but both arrangements were attractive for different reasons.
There’s the mournful trumpet in one and the cool, driving, ‘Peter Gunn’ beat in the other. Decisions, decisions….In the end, I chose Lisa’s version, because it conveyed the melancholic gravitas of the original.
LISA BASSENGE

I wasn’t surprised by the result as I found it very hard to decide between them. I loved the instrumentals on Lisa’s version but the vocals didn’t do it for me.
Debbie,
I can’t recall what I was thinking at the time I listened to both artists singing “Riders on the Storm” but I knew I preferred Bassenge’ cover the best. My ears don’t often match other voters so I just enjoy the moment. I need to check out more mewsic by Lisa, though. I really liked her style with this song. Thanks for sharing and now I need to check out this summer long challenge that you’re pitching. Have a good day, my friend!
Hi Cathy; Most people did prefer Lisa’s version including me. 🙂 She is a jazz singer, well-known in Germany. I’m glad you liked her! Thanks for checking out the challenge. It’s a normal blogfest, but I’m keeping the linky list open all summer, so people can join the party at their leisure. Happy trails!
I haven’t checked out the battles, sorry. I had not been visiting blogs lately, actually, and have just started. Also plan on visiting more A to Z bloggers whom I haven’t yet read. They deserve to be visited after the hard work.
No problem. 🙂 There’s a lot of material in the Blogosphere and we can’t check out everything. Nice of you to stop in, though. If you’re interested, we do these every month.
Not a bad outcome. But I guess I can say that since I was on the winning side.

Tossing It Out
I was expecting a blowout, so this is definitely better. We’ll see what happens for the next one.
My contestant won… Hence, this is a major upset.
I am giddy with excitement. 🙂
YAY! 😀 It’s good to be a winner.
Hey Debbie,
Seemed like we had similar experiences with the last battle, both of them being our first one back after a break. And like you, I had a hard time deciding which one to pick because I liked them both.
I’m glad that Lisa Bassenge won this one. I really did enjoy her version of Riders on the Storm. And I appreciated being introduced to her.
Have a good one!
it’s good to be back and I’m happy you returned as well, Michele. 🙂 This little blogfest could use a few more participants. Both versions had their good points, but Lisa definitely resonated with more people.
DEBBIE, it wasn’t close but it wasn’t TOO TERRIBLE of a blowout, either. We’ve all seen (and HAD) much worse in BOTB. But hopefully your next one will be a nail-biter.

True, Stephen. It wasn’t quite as bad as I expected. We’ll see what happens, next time.
Bit of a blow out there came to bear.
True. Not quite as bad as I thought it would be, though.
I think your turn-out is right in line with everyone else’s for May 15. Stephen only had 18 voters, But the rest of us only averaged 14 to 15 voters. I haven’t checked in yet on Lee’s tally yet, but I suspect his voter turn out is in this range as well. I really enjoyed your battle and looking forward to the next one!
There were a couple of regular voters missing, but I guess it serves me right for taking a BOTB hiatus. 🙂 Lee had 28! Things are likely to slow down more as summer progresses. We’ll see how it goes…I’m glad you enjoyed the battle, Mary.
I’m back to blogging so I’ll try to vote in your future battles.
Love,
Janie
Yay! Thank you, Janie. 🙂
