My Quarantine World #PhotoBlogChal

End of April already! Can you believe it? I’ve been away from the Blogosphere for over a month, but it sure flew by. It’s time once again for A L’il HooHaa’s Photo Blogging Challenge. The current theme is MY WORLD, in this time of Covid-19 quarantines. I hope everyone is holding up well!

Since nobody is travelling right now, my “doggie hotel” is empty and I sure miss the 4-legged houseguests! Hubby got laid off a few weeks ago, so we’ve been hunkering down at home, doing some spring cleaning, cooking and just hanging out. Nature walks have been great for stress relief!

Who knew “Netflix and Chill” would
become such a habit?

2) I’ve been cooking more, trying to keep it healthy
and balance the snacking habit we’ve fallen into.

3) Cooking more means grocery shopping.
Trying to stay safe out there!

4) Caught a sunrise one morning!
The beauty of nature promotes serenity.

  1. OK, I’m finally catching up on some comments and visiting. Will take some time, but it’s coming! Good set of photos for this challenge. It’s interesting for me to catch up now and see all of these items from the beginning time of this pandemic!

  2. Hi Debbie – sounds like you’ve managed well … and had some time to take stock … and it must have been lovely having hubby home for some of that time. Lovely seeing the photos … and hope those 4 leggeds can join you again soon! Take care – Hilary

  3. I am working from home and glad to be working. I feel so bad for you that you are missing your doggie friends. Have you been able to apply to CERB? They help even the self-employed. Also, if you have any debt, call them up, inform them that you are not working due to COVID and they will give you a 2 or 3 month reprieve plus ask for a lower interest rate. Sorry, my Credit Counselling came into the foreground. I love your picture especially the evening shot with Toronto in the background. I have always been very interested in the 1918 pandemic that killed 30 to 50 million people in the 2nd wave…the first was 1 to 5 million. there was a pandemic in 1957 and another in 1968 and, I believe, the experts have studied this and know that social distancing is the key. People are, well, pigs, and don’t wash their hands well after they go to the bathroom, sneeze into their hands and then want to shake your hand. They pick their nose, scratch the nether regions and touch so many things. I know this is saving lives even though the small businesses are truly suffering. Anyway, stay safe and, you never know, maybe we will meet up one day

    1. Hi Birgit! 🙂 I’m glad you are able to work from home. Fortunately, hubby went back to work today. Still a bit nerve-wracking, but certainly a relief, otherwise. We did take advantage of the CERB, plus we have no mortgage or other debts, so we are way more fortunate than many others. The stock market has diminished our retirement fund, but hopefully, it will bounce back before too long. At our age, that’s a real concern. I agree with your assessment. Many people are not that meticulous and social distancing is the best thing right now. My heart goes out to all the small business owners who may not recover. Sad to see their dreams evaporate! 🙁 Living without dogs around me is a little depressing and I desperately want to adopt one, but that would lead to major strife since hubby is still dead set against it. Sigh… I’m sure we will find a time and a place to get together, one day. Thanks for coming by here! You stay safe, too.

    1. Comic relief is sorely needed these days! 😛 Our grocery stores are open, but only letting in a few people at a time. Delivery is available too, but there’s a long wait – up to two weeks, sometimes! Thanks for coming by! 🙂

  4. Hey, it looks you are doing well! It looks like you are doing well!

It might be me or the fact I been living in Japan too long but I find it odd that Americans have to rare masks everywhere they go now. In Japan, it is a common practice and common courtesy as a lot of people wear a mask. You see people on public transportation during flu season and the winter season wearing masks. I told my mom to take a picture of the supermarket because she said she saw people wearing masks. I just find it odd. (They probably found it out that I wore masks whenever I visit the US before Coronavirus.)

It’s not to belittle the US and their new requirement of masks, just find it odd and amusing as an American in Japan as it is a standard here, even before Coronavirus. ( Which I now wear two masks)

    1. Hi Amy! 🙂 Wearing masks isn’t all that common here in Canada, either, but we did have them during the SARS outbreak in 2003 and it looks like we may need them for some time to come, now. I didn’t have a proper one (they are in short supply), so just improvised with a scarf. It seems that Japan is better equipped to deal with virus outbreaks. Better safe than sorry, yes? Thanks for coming by!

    1. Thanks! 🙂 I’ll probably still be posting less than before. The mood isn’t quite there, yet. I hope all is well with you!

  5. This is just the craziest time… I want to run like the wind out of my home but I want to be safe and for everyone else to be safe so this virus will go away! – On a happier note. Your dinner looks amazing altho I have to say I’ve never heard of lobster flavored wild Alaskan pollock. Does it taste like lobster? I love seafood. I’ll have to check and see if we have it over here. – Happy to read that your hubby is back to work but sad that your dogs are still social distancing. Geez o’ Pete I’ll be glad when this mess is over with. In the meantime, stay safe!! xoxox

    1. Yup, we’re all living in the Twilight Zone! 😛 The lobster-flavouring wasn’t all that noticeable with the Alaskan Pollock, but it still tasted good. Their faux crab is better. Not as nutritious as the real thing, but much cheaper and more convenient. When it comes to cooking, I’m very lazy! ? Hubby going back to work is good for the bank account, but a little nerve-wracking, otherwise. ? He goes straight into the shower when he gets home. Thanks for coming by! You stay safe, too.

    1. Thanks, Deb! I just had to have those paw print leggings. 😀 The Toronto skyline is so photogenic, with the CN Tower front and center. Love it! ?

  6. I am glad you are keeping your sanity, Debbie. That skillet mix looks fantastic. I must try something along that path… Nice to see you back this week!

    1. Well, sanity depends on the day, Myke! 😉 We are trying… I’m not a fan of cooking, but stir-fries are so easy! Heat a little sesame oil in the pan, then add veggies, protein (chicken, beef, fish, pork etc.), a little rice (or pasta, quinoa, etc.) and Teriyaki sauce. Ready in no time! ? Thanks for the welcome back. We’ll see how it goes.

  7. Hi Debbie!
The pictures are terrific – love the skyline. I’m glad you two are well, and that things will soon get back to normal for you ; -)

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, diedre! 🙂 Yes, things will be going back to normal for hubby, but my “canine inn” is still empty, so not quite the same, for me. At this point, I just want to adopt a bunch of dogs! ? Thanks for coming by!

  8. Debbie,

Sorry to hear the hubs was laid off, hopefully, he’ll get called back once business re-open fully again. Tennessee is beginning the opening of business phase. I’m not sure what that means exactly and I hope the public doesn’t see this a free for all jumping in with both feet to only see Covid-19 get out of control again. I say if you’re out mask & glove up for a while longer. What does it hurt? Absolutely nothing!

That stir-fry looks yummy! Boy, that made me hungry! What’s in it? Chicken, rice, and mixed veggies perhaps? I love your photo captures – beautiful shore and city views! Stay well and have a nice weekend, my dear!

    1. Hi Cathy, as it turns out, hubby’s going back to work on Monday. They closed the place down so they could provide a safe work environment, or, so they say. Not sure how safe it’s going to be, but we are grateful to have the paycheques rolling in again. I too hope people will use common sense and not go hog wild once things open up. They keep talking about the second wave of this horrible virus and that would be a shame. The teriyaki stir-fry is mixed veggies, some rice and Alaskan pollock chunks, pretending to be lobster meat. Not as good, but much cheaper! 😀

      Alaskan Pollock as lobster substitute

I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! 🙂 Thanks for coming by and have a lovely, restful weekend.

  9. I’m glad you’re back, Debbie! We’ve been hunkered down for a while, except for grocery shopping. However, today Georgia is allowing many businesses to reopen. I’m not ready to venture out yet and will wait to see how this pans out. Stay safe and well.

    1. Thanks, Eugenia. It seems a little premature to open everything just yet. Good idea to see how it goes, first. You stay safe, too!

  10. Good old Simon and Garfunkel ❤️
Lockdown done right: yummy food, entertainment, some work around the house.
And when this is all over I want to go back traveling. In the meantime I’ll enjoy your sunrise and Toronto skyline pictures! Thank you for getting up early for us! Stay healthy!

    1. We’ve been taking one day at a time, here. it’s been strange to be together 24/7, but, we did get used to it. 🙂 I’m thinking it will be a good while until travelling becomes possible again. At least, until they implement vaccines for this horrible virus. We can’t wait to hit the road for a change of scene! Thanks for coming by, Tamara. I hope you and your family stay well.

  11. Looks like you all are doing well. I’m sick of this whole COVID scam. There’s something very peculiar about all this and I’m not happy about it. I avoid going to the store or much of anyplace else because for one thing I don’t like wearing those suffocating masks. I’m too claustrophobic to be wearing those for long.

I’m hoping all this wraps up soon and it would be nice to see things back to where they were. Might not be too soon in California with our wacky government, but guess I’ll just stay home and do what I usually do. Maybe I should start getting my food delivered.

    Stay well. Be happy.

    Tossing It Out

    1. Thanks for coming by Arlee, especially on the last day of the A to Z Challenge. I’ll bet it was a roaring success, as always! Not sure I agree with you about Covid-19 being a scam, and I’d rather be safe than sorry, but whatever the case, I’m sure everyone will be relieved when things get back to some semblance of “normal.” Many people are getting food delivered these days and unfortunately, that has created a huge backlog. I’ve heard some say they had to wait two weeks for their groceries. Best wishes to you and your family!

  12. I’m sorry hubby has been laid off. Hopefully that will change soon. And, you’ll resume your fur baby hotel. I’ve been cooking a whole lot more but seriously need to social distance myself from the pantry and frig. I didn’t know you lived by water! What wonderful mental therapy right now! Your sunrise and dusk shots are lovely. I think I’ll just stare at your photos while listening to the pan pipes. Take care! xoxo

    1. Hi Lisa! 🙂 The good news is, hubby is going back to work on May 4. Kind of a double-edged sword, but apparently, the company (a manufacturing plant) now has proper protective measures in place. Hahaha! Many of us are spending way too much time in the kitchen, I’d say. Oh well, once the good weather hits (we’re still waiting!), there will be more chances for longer walks, etc. Yes, our suburb and downtown Toronto are located right on Lake Ontario, and it is excellent mental therapy. Unfortunately, the lakeside parks are all closed right now, but you can still sneak in there on foot (observing the proper social distancing rules, of course). Thanks for coming by! ?‍♀️

  13. I enjoyed your blog post and photos about what you’re doing during this quarantine time, Debbie. What movies are you enjoying? I liked “The Healer” that I saw recently. Always nice to see a movie filmed in Canada that actually puts the setting in Canada. Your dinner looked so yummy, your mask so chic and I loved the scenery of the lake and your view over to Toronto with the skyline glinting like gold.

Must check out that video. All the best to you and hang in there! We’re all in this together!

    1. Hi Cathy, nice to see you here! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the post. First one in over a month. We’ve been watching mostly European TV series. I’ll look for “The Healer” too and agree with you about the Canadian slant. Most movies filmed here pretend to be somewhere in the U.S. That’s a whole playlist of fun Covid-19 song parodies. We could all use a little humour these days! 😀 Best wishes to you and your family, as well. Thanks for coming by!
