Memories of Autumn

Whatever happened to the fall season?

Here in southern Ontario, it used to be, by the end of September, there was a nip in the air, and the leaves were starting to change colour. Autumn was in full glory come mid-October, with blazing red, orange and yellow leaves.

For the last few years, we have had summer weather right into the 10th month. Mother Nature gets confused, and the leaves stay green until that one sudden cold spell. Then they freak out, turn brown and fall off!

Not that I’m complaining, mind you. Summer is my favourite season, and I love being able to wear flip-flops as long as possible. The old feet despise confinement!

The downside for photographers, of course, is that the landscapes are far less exciting and photogenic. To that end, I’ve compiled a series of spectacular fall foliage photos (say that quickly three times! 😉 ) that I took in 2014 and 2015. Enjoy!

Wait a minute! I found some lovely fall foliage the other day:

Early fall isn’t bad, but eventually, the cold, rainy weather sets in and you know what comes after that, right?

Well, at least we have the holiday season to look forward to!

  1. You are right bout fall being a month late. Yesterday, I told hubby that the leaves on the trees is what we used to see mid October not now. Halloween was always the time to run through the leaf piles. I find the red leaves are not as vibrant which is so sad. You know that I do love this weather and am looking forward to seeing snow. You can kill me later….hahahaaa

    1. I don’t mind the delay, and as you know, I hate winter! 🙂 We are complete opposites in that respect, Birgit, but that’s what makes life interesting. You’re right about fall being less vibrant now. I was happy to find that recent colourful display.

  2. Hi Debbie – those are stunning photos – and yes I’m very happy with the still warm weather … but as you say gloom and some white stuff is still ahead – still these colours are gorgeous. Enjoy the rest of the autumnal days … cheers Hilary

  3. Your photos are beautiful, as always, Debbie. We don’t get the pretty colors of autumn. The first years that I lived here, we had beautiful autumn weather, though, because it was sunny and not as hot as summer. We are experiencing changes, as you are. It tends to be much cooler and rainier during fall and winter. I had to turn on the heat over the weekend. Saturday didn’t get above 46 degrees and you know that’s cold for Florida.

    Love,
    Janie

  4. We’ve got some color, but basically your intro both applies to our foliage and my opinions! The ‘older’ pics are spectacular!

  5. Some beautiful photos!

It’s starting to feel like fall here in Los Angeles–the Southern California version of fall that is. I’ve been feeling a chill with weather in the 50’s and 60’s. It’s supposed to get back in the 80’s later this week. Probably not for too long though.

  6. I love autumn colors, Debbie. I took pics of the glorious view from our balcony with my new phone. I am anxious to post them on my new blog. Unfortunately, our fall has been short, as well. The leaves turn and the next day the tree is almost bare.

    1. I hope all will go well with your new site, Eugenia. ? If you need assistance, let me know. I’ve been on self-hosted since 2013. Looking forward to your photos!

  7. Those are some fabulous images. It feels like it’s been an underwhelming scene around here this autumn for the first time I can remember. Usually my backyard is bursting with colors, but it’s not happening this year. If I wanted to drive a ways to see color I could, but I’m not in the mood so I’ll have to continue seeing images others put up this year.

    1. We always had beautiful fall colours, but the warmer temps in recent years have diminished the effect. I see now in November, we are getting some good ones again. Thanks for coming by, Sandee! ♥
