WELCOME BACK TO BOTB!
It’s time to announce the results of the Oct. 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. There are two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Some of us choose one date OR the other. Mine are scheduled for the 15th only.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following week. Click HERE to view all my BOTB entries.
Firstly, a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who participated.
This was the BEST turnout in a long time.
Love, Reign O’er Me is an epic song, requiring some powerhouse vocals. Both of these bands have an abundance of those, so I thought they were evenly matched. Heart came out with an early lead, then Pearl Jam started catching up. There were votes for both in the latter stages. In the end, more of you preferred what the Wilson sisters and co. had to offer.
No question, Eddie Vedder did a fantastic job. He has a stirring voice, and the band was great. That said, I have seen Heart perform this (and other scorching covers) live more than once. Ann’s voice always gives me chills (in my opinion, she is one of the best female rock singers in music history), and I love Nancy’s quirky/fabulous guitar licks. My 💗 goes to HEART.
Here’s how it played out:
HEART
Aisasami, Arlee, Birgit, Chris, DGKaye, Debbie, Eugenia, Janet, John, P.J., Sandee, Stephen
Total: 12
~~~~~~~~
PEARL JAM
Cathy, Cherdo, Mary, Mike, Myke, Roland, Mrs. Roland
Total: 7
AND THE WINNER IS,
HEART!
👏👏👏
And now, another SMASHING live performance. 🔥🔥 Literally!
Nancy trashes her guitar at the end, just like The Who used to do. 😎
Nancy (age 65) and Ann Wilson (age 69) prove once again that age is just a number.
Hi Debbie!
Terrific battle! Would that I could have made it here in time to vote, sigh. Off the record (as well as ineligible) Pearl Jam stopped me in my tracks. Wow!
I’ve enjoyed many songs by Heart, though not so much this one. Those gals still have an amazing amount of energy 😉
Thanks for coming by, diedre! 🙂 Your vote for Pearl Jam wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but most of us did like their version, as well. Ann and Nancy still look and sound amazing after more than four decades in the spotlight!
I didn’t vote. I’ve been away but no surprise here at all. Of course Heart won. Also. Are you their long, long sister? You should check your DNA. 🙂
Welcome back! Heart is hard to beat. 🙂 And thank you for that supreme compliment. ? My vocal and guitar-playing skills don’t cut it, though.
This one turned out well. I think you liked the Heart version better. You are an enthusiast.
I saw Heart perform live in Memphis, at Mud Island, about thirty years ago. I had front row, center seats. Good times.
It was a good battle, for sure. 🙂 And yes, I am a Heart superfan, but never managed to score front-row seats. Nice!
Debbie,
Nice turn out of votes and congrats to Hearts for their victory in this BoTB! They are awesome so I don’t feel bad that I was on the right side this time. Thanks for sharing the outcome. I’ll share my results on the first of November. Have a good afternoon. 😉
Heart is hard to beat! 🙂 It was a much bigger turnout than usual. Would be nice if it becomes a trend. Thanks, Cathy!
This Battle was a goot juan, DEBBIE.
And you DID have a really nice turnout. I don’t think I’ve hit 19 voters in quite awhile.
STMcC Presents BATTLE OF THE BANDS
Glad you enjoyed it, Stephen. 🙂 This was one of the best turnouts in a long time.
I had a feeling she’d take the prize. She deserved the win.
Have a fabulous day, Debbie. ♥
Agreed! 🙂 Thank you, Sandee.
Yep, Heart is hard to beat! However, good showing by Pearl Jam. Good battle, Debbie!
Heart is a formidable opponent! 🙂 Thanks, Eugenia.
Nice solid win for Heart, but Pearl Jam made a nice showing. Good outcome and good Battle!
Ann Wilson is indeed one of the great female rock vocalists, but there are several pretty darn good ones from over the years.
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
I did like the Pearl Jam cover, as well. No question, there are other great female rock vocalists (Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, etc,).
I guess they make guitars a lot stronger now. Looks like she had a hard time trying to smash it! I love the tiaras on the keyboard gal and drummer too. Thanks for sharing that.
Either that or Nancy doesn’t have the upper-body strength of Pete Townsend. 😀 I’m glad you enjoyed the video, Janet. Thanks for checking it out.
