Terri Webster Schrandts blogfest theme this week is “ICONIC PLACES & SPACES”

As a lifelong history nerd, I had fantasized since childhood about exploring ancient ruins and other famous landmarks. It was my great fortune to realize that dream in 2013 and again in 2018! Come along for a brief tour…

  1. Thank you for sharing! I love visiting Italy. I haven’t been to the Tower of Pisa yet but I thoroughly enjoy Rome and Florence. Would love to visit Greece one day.

    1. Yes, Rome and Florence are both fantastic! My sister-in-law and family live in the Roman suburbs, so we’ve been there a few times. So much to see! 😍

  2. As a fellow history enthusiast, your journey sounds absolutely captivating! It’s inspiring to see your dreams come to life through your travels.

    Happy Friday, Debbie!

    1. Thanks, Cathy. 🙂 We have been fortunate to visit these historic places. Niagara Falls never gets old, no matter how many times we go there. It used to be our “playground” as young adults. LD

  3. These are all great. I was surprised when I was in Venice how many towers were leaning. I guess naively I only thought of Pisa..lol. I have been to Niagra Falls a few years after we were married.

    1. Thank you, Kirstin! 🙂 Sadly, Venice is slowly crumbling and I hope they find a solution to preserve everything. We loved it there, too. Niagara Falls used to be our “playground” as young adults. Fun times. 😀

  4. Debbie,

What amazing photos! I know these trips had to feel like stepping into a dream. It would be so cool to see these places. I guess I’ll just keep on dreaming about visiting such places. Maybe if we win the lottery then we can travel to faraway destinations. While foreign travel might not be in our cards anytime soon, seeing the Space Needle in Seattle or Niagra Falls in Toronto is more doable and definitely places that would be awesome to see in person!

    1. Hi Cathy! Yes, I was fortunate to realize my travel dreams, but they did take over half a century to come true. 🙂 I’ve never been to the Space Needle. What you’re seeing here is Toronto’s CN Tower, which is actually much larger. You would love Niagara Falls!

      CN Tower vs Space Needle

      1. WOW, the CN Tower is huge compared to the Space Needle! I’m sure I’d love Niagara Falls! Waterfalls are beautiful natural masterpieces! In western North Carolina there are several small waterfalls that are visible near the road but the road is horrible winding. There aren’t a lot of places where you can pull of to view them when it’s peak season. Thankfully, we can visit anytime the mood strikes!

    1. I didn’t know you were interested in foreign travel, Chris. If you can’t go yourself, at least there’s “armchair travel” via the internet. 😉 We’ve been lucky, I know. On the flip side, we sacrificed some retirement stability for these epic excursions, plus, we live in a rundown old bungalow and drive old cars. Skewed priorities, I suppose. 😆

  5. Wow, Debbie, you have seen some iconic places with your own eyes! Our world is quite incredible. I like that you included your home town Toronto in the list of iconic places. I would love to see Niagara Falls from both sides of the lake!

    1. Yes, I was fortunate to realize my lifelong travel dreams. 🙂 Toronto is a beautiful city, although I think it’s growing much too fast and crime has increased. You would love Niagara Falls, Terri! We’ve been there dozens of times and it never gets old. 💖
