Welcome back to #BOTB!
Time to announce the results of the Jan. 15th showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
Blowouts are becoming the norm around here! That’s 4 in a row, now.
Hopefully, the next one won’t be so one-sided.
It’s never a good idea to pit an original against a cover and “Holding On To Yesterday” proves that point. Unfortunately, there was only one other recording found and I even had to buy the mp3 to get it, it was so rare. My compulsion to use this song drove me to it and there are no regrets. Rick Springfield’s version was a pleasant surprise! Great vocals, but I found the arrangement a bit jarring, compared to Ambrosia’s, which has a mournful, ethereal quality. Add to that, the intense memories attached and I have to side with the majority. Sorry, Rick! Here’s the breakdown:
AMBROSIA
Arlee, Birgit, C.W. Martin, cat, Cathy G., Cathy K., Cherdo, Debbie, John, Mary, Mary Lou, Michele, Robin, Stephen
Total: 14
~~~~~~~~
RICK SPRINGFIELD
diedre, Myke, Pat
Total: 3
And the winner is:
AMBROSIA
by 11 votes!
Here’s the winner in a live performance:
Don’t forget to check back with the others for their BOTB results:
Angels Bark / Cherdo On The Flipside / Curious as a Cathy /Jingle Jangle Jungle / Mike’s Ramblings / Sound of One Hand Typing / HOST: StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands / Tossing It Out / Your Daily Dose
NEXT BATTLE OF THE BANDS WILL BE ON WED., FEB. 1ST. SEE YOU THERE!
Was this the outcome you expected or were you surprised?
Looking forward to your comments!
Until next time.
ROCK ON!
This is a great, great song, Debbie! Hadn’t listened to it in years—maybe even decades. Thanks for the reminiscing 🙂
It’s usually pretty tough to beat the original especially when the original is as good as the Ambrosia version. This song was swirling through my head for days. It was good hearing it again.
Ooohh… Yeah, Blowout City, DEBBIE. Oh well, at least it wasn’t a shutout.
On my drive home from work for a couple months now I’ve been passing a big billboard advertising that AMBROSIA is playing at a local casino in early February. I believe they’re appearing at BOOMTOWN, which is a smaller but cool place on the outskirts of Reno. I like BOOMTOWN better than I do many of the bigger casinos here, but I’m afraid my concert-going days have pretty much passed me by. I’ve attended more than my fair share though, back “in the day”.
Here’s hoping your next Battle is a close one! I suspect my next one will be a blowout, and I know for an absolute fact that my February 15th Battle will be a massive blowout — one of the worst I’ve ever had — and yet it’s a Battle I’ve been eagerly looking forward to for months now. Despite the one-sided voting I know it will generate, I think it might be my favorite BOTB concept I’ve ever come up with.
This is such an amazing song. Thanks for presenting Ambrosia’s Live version.
Even though the battle was a blow out, it was so nice to be reminded of this song and I’m glad you included Ambrosia’s original. It does indeed bring back some fantastic memories…
Have a great Sunday Debbie!
