Welcome back! It’s time to announce results for the Mar. 15th BOTB post
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by Far Away Series and StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
This one pitted indie rocker and American Idol winner, David Cook
against Australian pop/rock band, Zoot
This outcome was a surprise to me, as I thought Zoot would get more votes, given their pedigree, (Rick Springfield, Beeb Birtles). Most of you preferred David Cook. The vocals were mentioned a few times. I’ll have to agree and give David my vote as well. His voice gives me chills and I’ve been a fan since his days on American Idol. That said, Zoot really rocked! Loved the arrangement but not the singer. (Guilie said something similar; David’s vocals with Zoot’s music would have been great.)
AND THE WINNER IS:
DAVID COOK
By twice as many votes!
Here’s the winner in a live performance:
(music starts at 1:20)
Don’t forget to check back with the others for their BOTB results:
Angels Bark / Cherdo On The Flipside / Curious as a Cathy / DC Relief BOTB / Far Away Series** / J.A. Scott / Jingle Jangle Jungle / Mike’s Ramblings / Quiet Laughter / ReInVintaged / Sound of One Hand Typing / StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands** / Tossing It Out / / Your Daily Dose

NEXT BATTLE OF THE BANDS WILL BE ON FRI., APR. 1st. SEE YOU THERE!

Was this the outcome you expected or were you surprised?

Nice show! I picked another winner. Smiling now.
Good luck with your A-Z challenge!
Yes, you sure did. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the battle. See you next time.
They were both good song versions, even though I had to choose. At least I chose the winner.
You did! 🙂 It was a tough choice for me too, but the vocals won out.
It was an interesting match-up, DEBBIE. You found two very different arrangements which always keeps a Battle intriguing.

Thank you, Stephen. 🙂 I try to keep it interesting.
I suppose my high water mark will always be that one time there was a tie… sigh
You’re obviously not swayed by public opinion, Myke. 🙂 It’s good to be unique!
I picked a winner. Yay! David Cook’s voice really is good so I’m glad he won your battle.
Are you doing battles during April? I was going to skip doing the BOTB for the month but I found April 1st and 15th to be good days to do BOTB so I’ll just be extra busy on the computer that day… 🙂

I love David’s voice and was thrilled to see a rocker finally win American Idol. Like you, I was going to take a break from BOTB too but decided to go ahead. They’ll be tied in (but as separate posts) to the A-Z posts. It’s going to be hectic, for sure! 🙂
YAY! I picked a winner! These battles have been so much fun, haven’t they? I look forward to these each time.
Yay! 🙂 Yes, I love doing these posts too, Mary.
David Cook has the greater name power so I guess that counts for something. He has a good voice too which probably counts for the most.

Yes, it was David’s voice that won me over, although Zoot’s arrangement really rocked. Hard to choose!
Oh…I am one of the few who voted for Zoot:) It’s always a great battle
I loved Zoot’s musical arrangement, Birgit. It was a tough choice. Glad you enjoyed the battle. 🙂
Hi Debbie. I have to agree with you. I came on the site the other day, thinking to vote, but I found myself facing the same problem: I sort-of liked one’s arrangement and the other’s vocals; I didn’t vote because I just couldn’t decide which of the two had the edge. Sorry about that. :3
Hi, Mary; It was a difficult choice, so I don’t blame you. 🙂 I love David’s voice and that decided it for me. Thanks for dropping in! Are you doing the A to Z Challenge this year?
Debbie, I am definitely doing the A-Z; I wouldn’t miss it. Hopefully, I’ll even post the last one, unlike last year. I’ve decided to dedicate my A-Z on Melody McDonald, my fictional aka. I’ve started the second book in the series and I thought people, seeing what Melody is made of, might actually be interested in the books. My fingers are crossed. When I signed up, my position was 710; I hope it still is. See you there!
That’s a great idea for a theme, Mary! Looking forward to your posts. I’m so far behind and starting to stress out. 😛
Hi, Debbie the Doglady!
I saw it coming as I read the comments and counted votes day by day. A 2 to 1 margin is still a good outcome, far from a landslide. I went old school on this one and I’m a little surprised that you didn’t. I have noticed that, in this digital age, people, especially the young, have their ears tuned to refined, state-of-the-art sound (and their eyes expecting HD video). For many it is difficult to embrace the less perfect sound and picture quality of older recordings and videos. Even I finally let go of the umbilical this year and embraced the sounds of today as evidenced by my 12-part series on modern pop, rock and rap.
Thank you, dear Debbie the Doglady!
Hi, Shady: Busy day both offline and on! I saw your comments on the other post and will respond to that asap.
I loved Zoot’s musical arrangement – it rocked! Problem is, the vocals left me cold. 😛 David Cook’s voice has always had an effect on me (and the arrangement was also good). He has such a fabulous tone and it gives me shivers. 🙂 Generally speaking, my ears still prefer “old school” rock music. Much of the newer stuff holds little appeal for me, with a few exceptions (like David Cook 😉 ). Demi Lovato has really matured as a power vocalist, for example. You’ve found a few yourself. It’s great how you showcase new young talent.
