DOWNTOWN:

Toronto, Canada’s largest city, and 4th largest in North America has a fabulous downtown area!
Okay, I’m a little biased, having lived in the area since 1969.

One of my favourite sights is the world famous CN Tower, lit-up at night.

  1. Never been to Toronto. So how it look like in the morning? Can you show me a larger photo in daylight? I just want to view full of this sight both day and night. Thanks.

  2. Pretty! I’ve never been Toronto. Actually, I’ve never been out of the US! I’d love to visit though, it looks nice!

      1. But… I like the snow! My moving goals is to get somewhere in the north anyway. Maybe Oregon or Washington.

  3. Gorgeous night shot! The CN Tower is really something to behold, now I’m curious as to how it looks in daylight:-)
I’ve never been to Canada but sure wouldn’t mind!

  4. Gosh I live about 1 1/2 hrs away or 2 by Go train:) I belong to the AGO and I want to see the Pompeii exhibit at the ROM. I also love this great video store right beside Honest Ed’s (former I guess now). My hubby hates the city-he finds it too noisy and he is just not into cities unless it is European. I think he gets a bit anxious especially when one hears about a shooting (almost always at the Jane/Finch corridor). I think it is a pretty nice city myself and so much to do

    1. Nice to know you’re not too far away, Birgit. Maybe we could arrange a meeting, one day 🙂 That Pompeii exhibit is sure to be great! We visited Pompeii in 1990 and were pretty awe-struck by it all. Sadly, Toronto is no longer as safe and clean as it used to be, but as big cities go, it’s still better than most. That said, I do prefer living out here in Suburbia. We’re close enough and can go downtown anytime. We went to the CNE last Friday night – 35 minutes by GO train. 🙂

  5. Toronto is my favorite urban area. We used to have a week layover in Toronto every year when I was touring and this was one of my favorite times. We would stay near the 401 Hiway usually across from some large mall. There was a subway station at the mall so we would often take the rail downtown to the Eaton Center area and spend hours. Have great memories. I recall going to the CN tower and then to some space exhibit in the below ground level areas of the Tower. That was probably around 1981 or 1982. Saw some great concerts in Toronto over the years as well.

We always lived it up while we were there because we were paid in Canadian currency when we worked there and didn’t want to have to convert our money since we’d lose out because the Canadian dollar was traded in at about .75 U.S. at the time. After the first year though we just opened a bank account through Royal Bank and started saving since we never could spend all of our Canadian money. I always built up my music cassette collection when in Toronto. Across from the Eaton Center they had some great music stores–they were massive!

    Great memories for me!

    1. I had no idea you were a regular visitor to Toronto, Lee. 🙂 So glad you enjoyed your time here! I remember there was a “Tour of the Universe” exhibit in the CN Tower basement at one time. Toronto is a true “Music Mecca”. Everybody plays here (except Metallica, dammit! 🙁 ) and we go to a lot of concerts. Sadly, after flying high for several years, the dollar is back down to about 75 cents U.S. Great for exports but bad for everything else. Thanks for sharing your memories of Toronto. Apologies for the late response.

  6. Reminds me of the Space Needle in Seattle. That one I’ve visited. I’d love to go to Toronto though, A beautiful city! Not all of them are, but some are just amazing and a real delight to explore. Night views are always lovely. While I live in the country now, I’d love to retire in a city, and one as beautiful as Toronto would be great.

    1. Yes, it is similar to Seattle’s Space Needle, only much bigger. To put it into perspective, from L-R: CN Tower (Toronto), Willis (formerly Sears) Tower (Chicago), Stratosphere (Las Vegas), Space Needle (Seattle):

      tallest structures

Toronto has so many wonderful places to visit and we love going there. It’s about 30 minutes from our home in the suburbs. Come on up and I’ll show you around! 🙂

      1. WOW, that is high, not sure I could stand to be that far up there, but I;d definitely give it a try. Thanks for the invite, be careful, I may just take you up on it! 🙂
