THE CANADIAN NATIONAL EXHIBITION

What’s it all about? From Wikipedia:

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), also known as The Exhibition or The Ex, is an annual event that takes place at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on the third Friday of August leading up to and including Canadian Labour Day, the first Monday in September.

With approximately 1.5 million visitors each year, the CNE is Canada’s largest annual fair and the sixth largest in North America.

The first Canadian National Exhibition took place in 1879, largely to promote agriculture and technology in Canada. Agriculturists, engineers, and scientists exhibited their discoveries and inventions at the CNE to showcase the work and talent of the nation.

As Canada has grown as a nation, the CNE has reflected the growth in diversity and innovation, though agriculture and technology remain a large part of it.

For many people in the Greater Toronto Area and the surrounding communities, the CNE is an annual family tradition.

  2. I haven’t been to the CNE in years. I hope to go next year. I used to love how each country showcased their work. I’d love to take that mouse ride

  3. I have a hazy childhood memory about going to this expo. Maybe we were going to go, but didn’t or couldn’t. I don’t remember actually going to the fair. But I was 5 or 6 at the time and that was a long time ago.

  4. I haven’t been to any fairs around here but did visit the Exhibition twice in the Summer of 1976 when I took a friend to Toronto for a week. So we went to see Chicago and The Beach Boys, two separate visits to the Exhibition, a week when the TTC was on strike, so we had to walk to get there and back – my grandmother lived near Dundas and Lansdowne so it was a bit of a hike.

    1. That’s a long walk, Linda! Good bands, though, so it must have worth it. Bandshell concerts are always fun at the CNE, but most of the acts they have now I can’t relate to. 😆 We saw Foghat, John Kay & Steppenwolf, and Burton Cummings (with surprise guest Randy Bachman).

      1. Our Pine Knob Music Theatre was like that … friends and I had series tickets every Summer for the same six bands and always lawn seats. I don’t know any of the bands that play anymore and so often the newer bands are tribute bands.

  5. I would love to walk around outside and visit, but the weather has been too humid for me. Yuck! Have vacationed in Toronto many times. Love it.

    1. We were there on Aug. 29. Not too humid that day, and it cooled right down in the evening. Toronto is still my favourite city, but the crime rate has gone up a lot in recent years.

  6. What a fabulous thing to do. I would love to enjoy this in person. Beautiful. I wouldn’t miss the home and garden exhibit. Beautiful sculptures. Wow.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Debbie. Hugs. ♥
