This is such a happy, upbeat kind of word, don’t you think?
It engages the lips and make you smile!

1.  Do you have a favourite bubbly beverage? Since I’m such a wine enthusiast, that’s my preference. We always celebrate special occasions with this elixir. There are different varieties.

Champagne is the crème de la crème, produced from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France. A favourite of these is Dom Perignon, from Moët & Chandon, but the high cost makes it rarely accessible. We save it for extraordinary milestones, like our 25th and 40th anniversaries.

Note: Only wines from this region are called “Champagne”, although people tend to generalize, as with any brand name, (Bandaids, Coke, etc.). Everything else is known as “sparkling wine”, which brings me to Prosecco, a reasonably-priced alternative, from the Veneto region in northern Italy.

Some of these, such as Martini & Rossi are a bit on the sweet side. I prefer the drier ones (Brut, Extra Brut), like Villa Sandi. As you’ll see in the video, Prosecco has become wildly popular. Cheers! Prost! À Votre Santé! Salute! ¡Sa

2. Some people have effervescent personalities and are seemingly “up” all the time. This is a little exhausting to me (and please don’t approach me in the mornings with such cheeriness, if you know what’s good for you 😉 ), but I do get that way when talking about my passions, like the one above.

Enthusiasm for a subject can be infectious! It’s a delight to listen to someone expounding with gusto on a topic close to their hearts. Take tour guides, for example. The best ones will enthrall you with their narrations, while others who recite by rote don’t connect at all.

The same would apply to teachers. Students are bound to learn more if the presentation is lively and entertaining.

FUN FACT:
EFFERVESCENT stems from the Latin word effervescent- ‘boiling up,’ from the verb effervescere.

1. What’s your favourite bubbly beverage?
2. Are you effervescent? Always, mostly, sometimes, never?

  1. I’m not a big fan of bubbly beverages, but if I had to pick one, it’d be Diet Coke! And no, I’m not effervescent – I think it’s nice to have such people around as they can cheer up the whole group, but dealing with too much of it can be tiring!

    1. Diet Coke is so refreshing with a wedge of lime on a hot day! 😀 An occasional indulgence for me. Yes, effervescent personalities can liven up an otherwise dull group, but as you said, too much is wearing. Thanks for visiting so many of my posts today.

  2. I have to say Champagne is my favourite, I don’t often buy it but I won a couple of bottles in the past and was in love with Taittinger I drank it when I released my book and it made me giggle like a child LOL

  3. I like this word. It brings positive thoughts and feelings. Don’t much like bubbly drinks though. I’m a tea lover! 😀
Learning a lot from some of the blogs during this AtoZ. It’s turning out to be a good experience!

  4. A wonderful post ‘bubbling’ over with interesting ideas! I enjoy most ‘aerated’ drinks but effervescent personalities can try my patience at times…

  5. This is such a fun word. While I was reading this post, I read Effervescence loudly and repeated it at-least 3 -4 times . It does have a nice celebratory feel to it. However, my husband who was sitting beside me engrossed in his cellphone, gave me a funny look and asked if I was all right 😛

  6. I like to think that I am a bit effervescent. I think a bubbly attitude can be contagious. I’ve had times where people misinterpret it as being immature. My thought is that is their problem. Sounds horrible I know but I don’t think it’s fair for others to dictate that a person shouldn’t be happy and bubbly. Love seeing the topics being picked here.

Take care and have a good week.

    Irish

    1. Effervescence can definitely spread and instill enthusiasm in others, depending on the situation. I get that way when speaking about something that excites me. Definitely not your problem if somebody doesn’t like your bubbly personality, Irish. As a night person, I just find it hard to take early in the morning. 😉 Glad you’re enjoying the posts. Cheers!

  7. I Like the sound of the ‘word “” Effervescent’ it just sounds Bubbly, However was not my choice of alcohol;……….” Years ago,
when I did drink’… Too dry for me and gave me a headache, even one glass. Nice choice of subjects’ ,Debbie.:) for the E letter.

    1. Ah, you probably had the cheap stuff, Glenda! 😀 Dom Perignon would never give you a headache. Too bad it’s not more affordable. Sigh…..Thanks for visiting and have an effervescent week!

  8. This is such a great word. Of course champagne and sparkling wines are wonderful, but for less celebratory occasions I really enjoy Italian soda. So much nicer than regular pop!

    1. Italian soft drinks and mineral waters are good, aren’t they? Hubby is Italian and we both enjoy them, now and then. My favourite is Brio Chinotto – such a unique taste and so refreshing! Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  9. I love Mondavi’s Moscato d’Oro. When you drink it, it smells like you’re drinking fragrant flowers. It runs about $11 per half bottle and is sometimes hard to find. It’s a sparkling wine and definitely worth it. I enjoyed reading your blog, having found it on the Blogging A to Z list. I think I’m #1,850-something on the list! Happy blogging! http://www.dianeweidenbenner.com

    1. Welcome to The Den, Diane. 🙂 Thanks for the tip about Moscato D’Oro. I’ll look into it. Sounds like you joined the challenge at the last minute, but as long as you’re there, it’s all good. Cheers!

  10. Wonderful post!

Dom Perignon is my favourite champagne too. Prosecco is also a favourite. Vinho Verde, Portuguese new wine, is and excellent, lightly sparkling, picnic wine. It’s also great to quaff with friends and family.

I do tend to have an effervescent personality when I’m around others or sharing my passions. (Seems I have an enormous number of passions.) Since I’m not a morning person and know so many others who aren’t, morning is a sacred time of calm (or at least it ought to be).

Visiting from A to Z and also at http://glamofgod.com

    1. Welcome to The Den, Drusilla. 🙂 Thanks for the info on Vinho Verde; I’ll look into it. Add me to the “effervescent when passionate, non-morning person” group! Nice to meet a kindred spirit.

  11. I love alcoholic sparkling fruit ciders occasionally – like Growers pear though rarely – that are somewhat effervescent as well as Perrier water (grapefruit, lemon, or lime). I don’t care for bubbles going up my nose though if you know what I mean! 😉 I would say that I am an effervescent personality when talking about things that are close to my heart that I love and/or mean a lot to me! 😉 <3

    1. When I was at school in Switzerland, we used to drink “Apfelwein” (apple wine), which is similar to cider, hoping to get a buzz. Never worked on me and I found it too sweet. Perrier is subtle in its effervescence and I like that, especially the lemon and lime flavours. I think when we talk about subjects close to our hearts, it’s impossible not to become more animated. 🙂

  12. This was great, Debbie. What fun words you’re picking! Love that word effervescent. It rolls of the tongue so nicely. I’m not much of a wine lover so don’t share your love of that kind of effervescent. I like effervescent people in small doses but they can be a bit much if they’re too bubbly. I don’t think of myself as that effervescent but I can occasionally bubble up when I get enthusiastic about something.

    1. Glad you’re enjoying these posts, Cathy! 🙂 I’m not a “bubbly” person either, per se, but can be, if it’s something I’m passionate about. Thanks for visiting.

  13. Effervescence is highly over-rated! The bubbles get up your nose, and I’ve not got over having violent hiccups at my cousin’s wedding reception when I was a teen, interrupting the speeches with loud gurgles.
I still like the champagne though 🙂

    1. Welcome to The Den, Jemima. 🙂 A more subtle effervescence with beverages is definitely preferred for that reason, like Perrier instead of club soda. That’s why I like Dom Perignon so much, but alas, the price is far too high for frequent indulgence. Hiccups at the wrong time are certainly embarrassing. Thanks for visiting!

    1. Champagne is lovely! 🙂 I enjoy the occasional mineral water and Coke too, but not a huge fan of beer. Once in a great while – but it has to be the good stuff, either German or Dutch.

  14. Interesting read! Well, it’s sounding funny as I type this, I have never had champagne in my life 😀 So, can’t comment on that..but yes, I do love effervescent personalities. They cheer us up but they should not overdo it 😛

    1. I do enjoy effervescent personalities – their enthusiasm is infectious – just not too early in the mornings. Way too much energy for this night owl. 😉 Champagne is a festive drink and a delight to the senses. Cheers! 🙂

  15. Love Prosecco – my mother in law uses it for a toast at Christmas and Easter dinners. My favorite wine is a dry or semi-dry Riesling. I’m quite introverted, so not sure I could describe myself as bubbly – except, maybe, after a couple of glasses of wine.

  16. I’d rate myself mostly. 🙂
Yes, I love the word effervescent – it rolls nicely off the tongue while filling one up with a sense of celebration.

I’ve only tasted champagne twice in my life – can you believe it?

    1. Ah Vidya; champagne (and sparkling wine) is a magic elixir that delights the senses! 🙂 Effervescent is such a happy sounding word, too. Cheers!

  17. I love sparkling wine, especially Prosecco 🙂 You are right effervescent is a lovely bright word. I try to be upbeat and bubbly when I can, but I don’t always manage it ;).

    1. Yes, Prosecco is a great alternative to actual Champagne and the price is more palatable too. 🙂 We can’t be “up” or “on” all the time. I get that way when talking about my passions though. Thanks for hanging out at The Den.

  18. I love champagne! And also love the word today. Such a fun word. I like using it to describe people. It’s so fitting. I’m a slow-motion-mornings person myself but I am usually upbeat, albeit quiet, first thing in the mornings… Have an effervescent day Debbie!

    1. At least give me some coffee, first. Then I can deal with chirpiness in the mornings. 😉 I can sense your effervescence when we talk about music and dogs. Same for me. Cheers! 😀

  19. I’m finally tuned to whoever is listening. If I see they are enjoying the topic, then it spurs me on. But if someone is dead pan, and gives me the cold shoulder, well, then I can turn my effervescent behavior off like a light bulb. Another wonderful word! and yes, Debbie you bring the effervescence out in me. 🙂 Thank you.

    1. I agree with that, Angelika. Audience reaction definitely makes a difference. Glad to know you’re so enthusiastic here. Thank you, too. 😀

    1. Yes, chipper in the a.m., at least before coffee, doesn’t sit all that well. Fortunately not a problem here either, unless you count happy dogs. 😀 Thanks for visiting John. Have a great week!

  20. Remind me to stay away from you in the mornings. When I get up I act like it is the middle of the day and am bubbly! I talk too fast, do everything too fast and laugh too much — or is that possible? EFFERVESCENT – yup and passionate about many things. Where’s that soap box?

    1. Well, at least before coffee! 😉 My prime time is nights, so it takes me awhile to get going in the mornings. No such thing as laughing too much, in my opinion.
