WELCOME BACK TO BOTB!
It’s time to announce the results of the Nov. 15 showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. (Please note: Effective July 2017, some of us switched to once a month on the 15th. Others may opt to continue with twice a month.) Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
This was my first battle in three months and it’s good to be back! Nice to see a close one for a change, after all those previous blowouts. So close, in fact, that votes were split right down the middle. Yup; half of you chose Elvis Presley and the other half preferred Michael Bublé. So, that means I have to be the tie-breaker.
Actually, it was a fairly easy choice for me. I love Willie Nelson’s version and my friend sang it in that style as well, so there are lots of memories attached. No question about Elvis having a beautiful voice, but I didn’t love his rendition. Oh, it was good, but he seemed to be on “auto-pilot”, not giving it the emotional depth it deserved. Also, the quicker tempo was a bit jarring. Michael, on the other hand, has a voice that can melt glaciers! Every word was dripping with pathos and the languid arrangement added even more emotion. My heart demands I choose Michael! Here’s the breakdown:
MICHAEL BUBLÉ
Arlee, Cathy, Cherdo, Clowie, Debbie, Mary, Robin, Stephen
Total: 8
~~~~~~~~
ELVIS PRESLEY
Birgit, Janet, Janie, John, Michele, Mike, Myke
Total: 7
AND THE WINNER IS:
MICHAEL BUBLÉ
Here’s a stirring live performance:
Nice outcome. I could have gone with either choice, but when I voted I guess I was in kind of a Buble mood.
Tossing It Out
Michael Bublé put more emotion into it. 🙂 So glad to break that “blowout curse”. Enjoy your Thanksgiving festivities!
I am listening to The Pet Shop Boys sing “Always On My Mind” right now.
It has a good beat, and you can dance to it. 😉
Found it on Youtube. Holy shit! They turned it into a disco song. 😮 🙁 You can keep it. LOL Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I did not go looking for it. I just looked up and it was there, in front of me. Listening made perfect sense. 😉
Congratulations to Michael. That was quite a battle. Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes.
Love,
Janie
Yes, I’m so happy to beat that “blowout” curse. Enjoy your holiday.
Great Battle, DEBBIE. I’m glad you had such a tight race upon your return. And when the BOTBer himself/herself gets to break the tie, to me, THAT is the ultimate in BOTB. It may seem egotistical, but I LOVE IT when I am the deciding factor regarding who wins! That’s good stuffs!
Have a great Thanksgiving and see ya in December.
Thank you, Stephen. It’s a relief to break the curse! 🙂 Playing tie-breaker is fine with me too. Love to see my favourite win! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. (P.S. Canadian Thanksgiving is in October but I appreciate the thought.)
Having a deciding vote reminds me of a song – “under pressure”! 🙂
Kind of, but I liked helping my favourite one win. 🙂
