ZUCHON
(aka SHICHON, TEDDY BEAR)

The Zuchon is a cross between an oriental Shih Tzu and a Mediterranean Bichon Frisé.  Although not considered an official breed, this may change as the Zuchon’s star continues to rise.

They reach an average height of 9-12 inches (23-30 cm.) from the shoulder, and a weight of 8-25 pounds ( 4-11 kg.) fully grown. Their long coats are considered hypoallergenic and require regular grooming.

An important feature with the Zuchon hybrid is its longevity. The average life-expectancy is around 12–15 years. Some possible defects known to designer dogs include canine hip dysplasia, deafness, epilepsy, and liver disease.

The Zuchon is a well-mannered dog known to be social, happy, and gentle. They become devoted to their families but need much attention and do not do well when left alone for long periods of time. They are good therapy dogs. Sometimes the Zuchon may be stubborn and in need of training. – WIKIPEDIA

As mentioned, this is a fairly new breed and so far, I’ve only met one. Harlow (named after the classic movie star, Jean Harlow) has quickly become a favourite houseguest. I always look forward to her visits! Isn’t she adorable?

  1. I tell myself that I am a “cat person”, but when I touch or see a little dog like this, I get very emotional. Sorry, Debbie, I could not keep up reading all letters of this alphabet – for personal reasons you know, but I can come always back to roam in your very nice and educational website, when my life calms down……

  2. Thanks for your comment oder Danke ich weiss nicht ob Sie noch deutsch können ! I live since 60 years in Belgium and that’s funny that you too are married with an Italian and you live in Canada. Your Blog is so complicated I didn’t know where to leave a comment ! You are a dog lover I am the same but with cats ! Of course I love dogs too. My husband comes from the Lake of Garda.

    1. Guten Tag, Gattina und WIlkommen! 🙂 Ja, ich spreche auch Deutsch. This is a website that contains a blog. If you look at the top menu, you will see BLOG. Just click on that to take you to all the latest posts. Or, if you are on the home page, just scroll down a little bit, past the bio, to find the latest posts. I’m surprised you had so much difficulty, as I left my comment on your blog using my Google account, which is attached to a Blogspot page that also contains a feed on the top right showing the latest posts. Anyway, you came to pay a visit and that’s wonderful. Vielen Dank! 😀 Germans and Italians get along well together, yes? Your husband is from North Italy and mine, from the south, specifically the Bari area, province of Puglia (top of the heel of the boot). We met here in 1971. I have lived in this area since 1969. Here’s a link to the main blog page and below, a link to the #WW post. Tschüß!

  3. I realized something a few months ago and even wrote a post about it. We have had over 30 dogs and they have ALL had pointed faces. The same with my daughter and her crew. The same with the dogs my hubby and I grew up with. I have an aversion to flat faced ones and never realized it until recently.

  4. Such a cutie! Love it, a wonderful way to finish the A to Z. Can’t believe I haven’t been here until now! So much catching up to do. As a minion the work is never done, LOL!
Happy end of the A to Z and truly Happy May! 🙂

  5. Anyone who bows out of the May 1st challenge, I completely understand. I think some of us BOTBers for next year make a group decision to either go lite (just one BOTB post) or skip it all together. Those weeks really burned me out, because though I considered skipping, I went ahead and did my two battles, albeit abridged.

  6. DEBBIE IS THE QUEEN! ALL HAIL DEBBEROONI!

Congrats on all your hard work, wonderfully tailored around one of my favorite things in the whole world: dogs! Fun, informative, alphabetical…ladies and gentlemen of the jury, what more can we ask? Great job! Let’s go grab our survivor’s badge!

    1. Thanks, Cherdo. 🙂 I enjoyed your theme as well and wish I had been able to visit more. Hope to be better organized next year. I’ve skipped this BOTB but will join in on the 15th. Cheers!

  7. Congrats to the end to the A to Z! We did it! You should see the dust in my home:) now I’m listening to the BOTB. Harlow is perfect! Very white with some sass:) I learned quite a bit about dogs and how many you have met. I am certain you know all the different ways they communicate also.

  8. She’s a Harlow if I ever saw one!

Well, I made it, but just. And now I’m still out here trying to put the final comments on all the blogs I didn’t reach on the last day.

    Champagne on the house! Cheers.

  9. I’d never heard of Zuchons! Not my style of dog (unless I find one homeless and sick and terrified, like the Maltese who swindled us into adopting her), but they do sound lovely.

Your series this year has been so educational, Debbie, and so full of excellent stories. It’s been a joy to read. I missed several of your posts, though, so I’ll be coming back to browse at leisure 🙂 Congratulations on getting to the finish line! Hope you’ve lined up some sumptuous celebration… You’ve earned it 🙂

    1. I didn’t think you’d be too keen on designer breeds, Guilie. Your little Maltese must have been clever to trick you like that. 🙂 Thanks for dropping in whenever you had the time. It’s all over for another year, WHEW!

  10. YAY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You did it! I did it! WE ALL DID IT!!!! 😀 So happy to have completed it. I really do feel a sense of accomplishment. I’ve so enjoyed your posts and I’m coming back to the ones I’ve missed. I so appreciate you visiting my place and I have learned so much reading your A to Z’s! – As for this dog or any “designer” dogs.. Cute as they are. I just don’t know about breeding dogs specifically for the purpose of having another breed. In the old days didn’t we call mixed dogs, mutts? And they were just random mixes not intentional. My personal jury is still out on the “making” of the designer dog. I’m most concerned with the ailments and ill health these designer dogs may incur. I don’t think it’s fair to them. Anyway. My two cents. – Congratulations again!

    1. Thanks and congrats to you, as well! 😀 Yes, mixed breeds used to be called “mutts”. Actually, the designer mixes may be somewhat healthier that purebreds, because the inherited illnesses are diluted, or so the theory goes. This would probably only apply if it was a fairly new mix and not one that has been breeding for a longer time. I’m glad you enjoyed my theme. I always have fun at your place too and regret not having enough time to visit more.

  11. Aww! Harlow looks like a doll! Dogs that are well-mannered and social, happy, and gentle too…. well, I’d love to have Zuchon as a pet, definitely! 😛

  12. I know that I already love the bichon, so I’m quite positive that I’d love a zuchon. If you ever tire of your friend, Harlow, visiting, you can send her my way 😉

  13. I apologize for my lapses. I’ve tried so hard to visit everyone every day… and some days I’ve done better than others!

That dog is a cutie pie. Serious cuteness there.

Congrats on finishing the A to Z, Debbie, and thanks for playing along over at my place. It was lots of fun!!!

    1. NO apologies necessary, Robin. I’ve been struggling the whole time, here. (As you can tell by this late reply). Harlow is one of the cutest dogs I know. 🙂 Thanks for visiting me and for a running a great music theme. Loved it!

  14. That is one adorable little dog! Thanks for all your work. Thanks for playing. I enjoyed it so much.

  16. She is a cutie. Again you have presented a dog that I knew nothing about. Amazing. I am following your blog now so I will stay in touch. One of these days I want to acquire another Beagle. Perhaps now a cross breed Beagle pup and may have to get your advice.

Thank you for a very interesting blog. I am glad you found me because I have really enjoyed visiting and getting to know things about dogs that I never took the time to learn.

All the best for your future. You have done a fantastic job.

Visiting from the A to Z Blog Challenge.

    Shalom,

    1. It was so nice to meet you during this challenge, Pat! That’s what it’s all about. 🙂 I followed you, as well. You might enjoy this site which lists different breed possibilities with Beagles:
Thanks for the compliment. Your story about the child and prophet was fascinating, plus I even learned some new words. Liebe Grüße aus Kanada!

  17. What an adorable little dog!!! I’ve never heard of this breed. Geez, there’s just no end to the kind of designer dogs that can crop up, is there? Love this combination. And Harlow is just the cutest!

Well Girl, we did it again! Congrats. I’ve so enjoyed all your doggie posts, all the pictures and the videos and especially the stories! Thanks for the education and the entertainment!
Get some rest my friend…and enjoy that weekend! XOXO

    1. The new breeds keep on coming. I just hope greed doesn’t spoil them, which has been known to happen. Harlow is one of my favourites. Cute and spunky! 🙂

Thanks and congratulations to you as well! 🙂 This one has been harder than the others, as I was so far off schedule. 😛 I’m going to get a huge head start for next year like you did. (I always say that and it never happens. LOL)

See you again, soon and thanks for being such a great blogging buddy!. Cheers!

  18. Well, you did it and managed to name off a lot of dogs that I’d never heard of. Congratulations on making to the end!
