THINGS TO BE GRATEFUL FOR WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE DEATH

26 CommentsHealth and Wellness, Life

Just in case anyone was missing me, I’ve been laid up for a week now with a bad case of pneumonia. Well, that’s a silly thing to say, isn’t it? There’s no such thing as a good case, just varying degrees of severity.

This is the sickest I’ve been in the last twenty years and, unlike most women who are pillars of strength, I’m a total wuss when it comes to illness. The roles are definitely reversed at our house. My husband is the strong, silent type while I huddle in a puddle of misery.

What to be grateful for when you feel like death.
To shake myself out of this pity party, I’m listing some things to be grateful for.

– It’s only temporary! I will get better, eventually.
Countless people suffer from chronic or terminal illnesses.

– I’m finally losing some weight! This should give me the
incentive to get serious about it when I’m better.

– Sleeping more than usual. Normally, I never get enough.

– Most of all, I’m grateful to my amazing husband, who is doing everything
possible to keep me comfortable: Bringing chicken soup, countless
runs to the store,
doing laundry, taking care of the dogs, etc. etc.

A favourite expression also comes to mind:
“Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”
True dat!

  1. So sorry you are down, down… I knew you were sick, but was assuming you would bounce right back. Glad Hubbie is there and stepping up to take care of everything.

  2. Hi Debbie,

I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this! I hope you feel better soon. I had pneumonia once and it was one of the nastiest illnesses I have ever had. Not fun! Fortunately, your husband is taking care of you. You’re a lucky woman to have such a thoughtful hubby!

Sending you positive vibes for a speedy recovery! 🙂

  3. Oh no, Debbie! I hope you kick the nasties in the bum real soon! Never had pneumonia before but any kind of nasty cold is a major downer. Sending you prayers for a quicker recovery!

  4. This is nothing to sneeze at (sorry) and rest is the biggest thing you need and plenty of. I am glad your hubby is there for you as he should be:) My hubby would be there too but he would be griping under his breath. I am certain your fur babies are right with you also. Do whatever you need to do to get better faster than later and rest, rest, rest.

  5. I hope you’re feeling better Debbie! I don’t like being sick but I do like that I drop some pounds when I am. 🙂 Sending positive vibes and prayers for healing your way.

  6. So sorry you’re sick, Debbie! Wonderful that you have such a great and supportive husband – that helps SO much. Hope you’re feeling back to normal ASAP!

  7. Aw, Debbie… I’m so sorry you’re sick. Yes, you will get better eventually—sooner rather than later, surely—but I’m also a wuss when it comes to illness, and I feel for you. Wish I could package some vitamin-D-packed Curaçao sunshine and warm breeze to brighten up your bedroom 🙂 Sending you hugs, friend. (And kudos to hubby for taking such great care of you! Hurrah for the good men out there!)

  8. So so sorry to hear you’ve been sick. Nothing to sneeze at pneumonia! Take care and yes, let hubby do it all. This one requires lots and lots of rest – take it!

  9. Poor Debbie. Sorry to hear you’ve been so sick with the pneumonia. I’ve had it before and know how awful it is. You are good how you are trying to focus on being grateful when you feel like crap. Hope each day is a bit better and it won’t hang on too much longer. Thinking of you and sending lots of healing vibes your way!

  10. Sorry to hear but I understand completely. I was scared I was getting bad when I was on vacation at Christmas, but fortunately I got pretty well after we got home.

Get the post for Battle of the Bands/Lost & Found done for Monday. But take care and get well is the most important thing.

    1. Thanks, Lee. I barely managed to finish the post and it wasn’t what I had planned originally, but, such is life. Recovery is taking some time, but I hope to be back in good form, soon.

  11. Poor baby! I’m so sorry you’re sick. Pneumonia sucks! I’ve had it so I know how sick you are. It’s no picnic, that’s for sure. I’m glad your hubby is caring for you and the puppies. Very wise of you to do a gratitude list: kinda brings you back to reality, huh? You do have much to be grateful for….and you’ll be back to your old self soon! Get plenty of sleep: sleep is extremely healing so rest and sleep is the order for the next several days! Take good care of yourself…
    Feel better sweet Debbie! XOXO
