SECOND CHANCE FOR LOVE

She slammed the door in his face.  How dare he?

Sarah was livid!

Jake had walked out months before to be with someone else, and now he wanted to come back.

What did he take her for?  A doormat?

sad man

She looked through the peephole and saw him standing there.

He was crying, and she melted.

Written for the Write Tribe 55 Fiction Challenge.

Often called “micro” or “nano” fiction 55 fiction is the art of creating a complete short story in exactly 55 words, no more, no less.  Not an essay, not a poem, not a bunch of random thoughts, no musings. Just a potent piece of pure fiction that you’ve dexterously composed in 55 words.

Prompt: Love or Mystery

    1. Could very well be, Sheela, but the love may still be there too. We’ll never know, since this is such a short story. 😉 Thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks Kathy! 🙂 It may not have been the wisest decision, but who knows? Hard to tell a complete story with only 55 words. LOL

    1. Hehehe; I guess Sarah is a sucker for a crying man. Hard to resist! 😉 Glad you enjoyed it, Corinne. It was an interesting challenge.

  1. Hi Debbie,

More than the creative piece, I was marvelling at how you managed to fit it all in so well in 55 words!! Gosh! It seems so unimaginable for me, and I think I need to take up one of these challenges to learn to reduce my word count 🙂

Coming to the post – I don’t think a majority of people would take such a person back. But, women are generally soft hearted and tend to melt faster. A lot depends also on their situation, and if they are ready to really get back together and give each other a second chance, though it’s seldom done and seldom works out.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. this was the first time I tried it Harleena and yes, it was quite a challenge! I agree that most people probably wouldn’t take the person back, but, as you say, it depends on so many factors. Hard to resist a man who cries. 🙂

  2. Hi Debbie

Oh what the heck, one more chance! Only joking! But how many people really do let someone comeback. If one is only boyfriend and girlfriend, I would hope they moved on by the end of month one. If engaged, no way by the end of one week. If married, well that would depend on how many years, what lead up to the break up, who was really to blame. Counseling would be in order. Very complicated.

    1. Oh, it’s definitely complicated and not a story one can tell with only 55 words! LOL Not sure I would take someone back who left me, but it really depends on the circumstances. Thanks for visiting, Mary. 🙂

  3. Wow…I don’t know if I would take someone back who left me. I guess it depends on the type of break up. Was I dumped or an amicable split?

Sounds like Sarah is taking him back!

    1. Not sure I would either, Corina. I agree, it depends on so many factors, none of which can be outlined in a 55 word story. It was a fun exercise though. Sarah is a sucker for a man who cries. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

    1. Yes, indeed Lisa. 🙂 I’m not sure I would have, but, it’s hard to resist a man who cries. (Unless of course, he’s a total cad and that was a calculated move. 😉 )

  4. This was wonderful, Debbie. I really enjoyed it. Not sure I’d take him back but I do find it hard when a man cries, that’s for sure.

    1. Glad you liked it, Cathy. 🙂 It was my first attempt ever. Not sure I’d take him back either, but, I think it would depend on the whole history of the relationship and how much I wanted him back. Nice to meet you and welcome to The Den.

    1. I’m sure it would take some time to regain the trust, but, we’re all human and make mistakes. One would need to know more about the bigger picture here, I think. Thanks for visiting, Kalpana. 🙂
