Battle of the Bands BOTB

BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by Far Away Series and  StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.

This was an all-British round, pitting blues rocker Eric Burdon against Goth rock band Inkubus Sukkubus

This one wasn’t even close! Although I chose Eric Burdon (the intro gives me shivers and I love the whole psychedelic groove of the piece, not to mention Eric’s plaintive tone), it was the Goth version by Inkubus Sukkubus that resonated with most of you. A couple of you didn’t like either one and chose it by default, which is still a legitimate vote.

AND THE WINNER IS:

INKUBUS SUKKUBUS

By a ~70/30 split:

  1. I liked both versions, but I resonated better with IS’ version because of the Goth in me 😀

  2. HI Shady; Yes, I know you’re a fan of Eric’s too. and agree that I.S. had an interesting arrangement of the song, which I also liked. Their live performance was good too. Have you ever seen Eric live? Our most recent experience was in Nov, 2014 and even at the age of 73, Eric Burdon still has those scorching pipes! 😀

    1. I bet you have some great concert stories to tell, Shady! 🙂 We should compare notes sometime. I’ve seen Eric twice now. The latest was last Nov. At 73, he was still incredible! In Feb. 2013, we drove 4 hours through a blizzard and it was well worth it. 🙂 Never got the chance to go to many concerts in my younger years, so I’m making up for lost time, now. 😀 Still, he would have been great to see in his prime. I can honestly say though, that every veteran rock act we’ve experienced so far has been excellent. No steps lost because of age.

  3. Good News! Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Right now, I am listening to multiple versions of “Feels Like Home.” It is Chantal Kreviazuk (famous Canadian) against the world… 🙂

    1. Hi Myke; I’ll have to check that out. 🙂 Yes, Chantal is a famous Canadian and so is her husband, Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace).

    1. Mine does too, Angelika. 🙂 Even if you had voted, he still wouldn’t have won. His version of the song was a bit unusual; not exactly mainstream. Thanks for dropping in.

    1. Well, I guess this just wasn’t your taste, Stephen. Not everyone is into psychedelic music. Personally, I love it, but, the majority preferred the Goth vibe. All good! 🙂 Getting away from rock altogether for the next one. Cheers!

  4. I’m surprised that the difference would be so extreme, but the IS band was decent. I still prefer the classic psychedelic sound of Eric Burden.

    1. We share the same opinion here, Lee. 🙂 I too was surprised that Eric didn’t fare better, but as you say. the other version was good too.
