This week’s feature is one of my all-time favourites:

 ROD STEWART

[Originally published on July 8, 2013.  I’ve been a SUPER FAN since the late ’60s and last night, we attended a Rod Stewart concert for the first time since 2008.  For about 20 years, it was pretty much a yearly event for us and I missed him!  As usual, Rod did not disappoint.  Even at almost 69 years old, (Jan. 10/14), he remains a fantastic showman!]

Rod dec. 15-13
Toronto, Dec. 15/13.  He’s still amazing!

Rod was first discovered by world-famous blues singer Long John Baldry when he was only 18 years old, but his big break came when he joined the Jeff Beck Group in 1967.  Their debut album, Truth was a major success.

He went on to even greater heights when he and fellow band mate Ronnie Wood joined The Faces in 1969

He also enjoyed a concurrent solo career, which continues to this day.  His signature song, Maggie May, became a #1 hit in 1971 and earned him a gold record.

Another hit from the same album “Every Picture Tells a Story”:

His success continued all throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s, after which he experienced a drop off in popularity.  His 1988 album. Out of Order brought him right back into the spotlight, garnering this big hit:

This period of renewed success lasted for several years, but things slowed down again in the mid-90s.

In 2002, Rod reinvented himself and became a crooner of songs from “The Great American Songbook”.  This was so successful, that 4 subsequent albums were released, the last one in 2010.

Rod  was on a roll  in 2012, publishing his autobiography and releasing his first Christmas album.  He also announced that he was writing and recording songs for a new rock album.

TIME was released in May.  The old Rod is back, at last!

We had the pleasure of seeing Rod in concert more than a dozen times over the years and were never disappointed.  He is the quintessential showman!

  1. Sorry don’t have a microphone that would’ve been fun. I’ve been a Rod Stewart fan for a very long time. Such a unique voice he has too. My most favorite one is the one with the video with his son. You can see the love pour out and hear it in his voice. What a spectacular song & video. Thanks for sharing and joining us.

    1. Ah yes, “Forever Young”. He did that one as a duet with his daughter last night. 🙂 She’s 26 and an excellent singer/songwriter in her own right. Glad you enjoyed it Dolly and thanks for the return visit. Merry Xmas!

    1. Hi Teresa; He did that song as a duet with his 26 year old daughter, Ruby, last night. She definitely inherited his talent! 🙂 Rod is pretty amazing, especially for his age. Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

  2. He is just one of those iconic figures that you cannot help but like.
I love your page and I am a new follower.
I left a voice message…sorry for the cough!

    1. Hi Naila; Thank you for following my blog. 🙂 I will do the same. Unfortunately, there was nothing from you in the voicemail inbox, but thanks for taking the time. (I checked and the program seems to be working properly). Sorry about that – was looking forward to your message! 🙁 Anyway, yes, Rod is “larger than life” and always puts on a fantastic show. Cheers!

  3. I am jealous you hve seen him in concert! Maggie May takes me back to my college days but Forever Young has to be my favorite.
He has some wonderful Christmas songs too.

    1. Hi DogsMom; Yes, we have seen Rod in concert many times over the years and loved them all! Last night’s concert was even better than the previous one we attended in 2008. Speaking of Christmas songs, he sang “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, complete with a decorated tree. 😀 Thanks for visiting!

  4. Brilliant choices I agree he still sounds great loved the vids they are using Forever Young for a TV advert here at the moment, what I also like about him is whenever he does a cover version he always does it well 🙂

    Have a rodtastic week 😉

    1. Hi Steve; Rod really is “Forever Young”! 😀 I think his covers are all great and often better than the originals. My week is definitely starting out well – fantastic concert last night! ♥ Thanks for visiting and have a great week, yourself.

  5. Hey there Debbie!

I love Rod Stewart. My aunt was a fan and had his albums…that had “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” that’s when I first heard his music.

When I was a teen I was listening to classic rock and that’s when I heard his older music and when I heard “Stay With Me”…I was hooked :).

I remember watching a music awards show when I was little. My grandmother called him “El Periqo” which is “the Parakeet” in Spanish because of his spikey hair, lol.

You know I love when you do these posts. You’re an awesome lady miss Debbie! Hope you had a great weekend!

    Happy Monday!

    1. Hi Corina; Glad you enjoyed the post. 😀 Rod did “Stay With Me” at the concert last night and it was every bit as good as in his younger days! Yup; “El Periqo” is an amazing talent, for sure. 😀 Thanks for visiting and for your kind words. Rock on!
