MOUNTAIN:

I’ve seen many a mountain over the years, but none can compare to Meteora, Greece, where the famous Hanging Monasteries are located.
We visited this area in 2013, as part of a four day Classical Land Tour. “Awesome” doesn’t begin to describe it!

30 thoughts on “MOUNTAIN – PHOTO FRIDAY

  1. I think it’s another nudge to move Greece a little further up my list of places to see. And I’d oblige you with the pothole photo, but I suspect I wouldn’t survive getting out of the car to take it – most are in high traffic areas with no convenient parking. 🙂

  2. Amazing photos. The mountains and the seas teach us lessons important. While the mountain teaches us to be strong and sturdy in the face of adversity, the sea teaches us to open our hearts to the world around.

  3. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing. In the end I missed the city prompt – was too late to post. Seems I’m always on the backfoot with these prompts – will have to organise better!

    1. Sorry you missed the last prompt, Suzy. Far as I know, it stays open all week, until the next one on Friday mornings (usually around 2 am ET – I think that’s 7 pm your time). Glad you enjoyed the photos. 🙂 I’ll be doing a more detailed post about Meteora, in future.

    1. It was the trip of a lifetime, Elly! 🙂 Greece had been my number one bucket list item since childhood and I thought it would never happen. More posts coming up.

    1. Yes, Greece is an amazing country, and has something for everyone. Fascinating ancient ruins, breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches……It was on my bucket list since childhood. 🙂

  4. Beautiful views. I took some nice shots while I was in Arizona but they do not compare to these. I now want to go to Greece. More for my bucket list! Thanks Debbie.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the photos! 🙂 I’ll be doing more posts about our trip to Greece in the coming months. Arizona would be interesting – I haven’t been there, yet.

    1. Nothing like that around here either, Brenda. That’s why I love travelling! 😀 Glad you enjoyed the photos. I’ll be doing a more in depth post about Meteora, soon. Thanks for visiting.

    1. It’s an amazing place. Lee! I will do a more thorough post about it, in future. In the old days, they hauled people and goods up using giant baskets. Now, they have hundreds of stairs which, I’m proud to say, given our ages and various infirmities, we managed to climb.

  5. Mountain? Cruel prompt for us flatlanders. I guess I could take a photo of a Houston pothole and call it a reverse mountain.

I don’t know what your blog’s problem is with me this morning – it says I’ve disabled javascript (NOT) and then won’t let me try again to post because… I haven’t spent enough time reading (even though I did, before my first attempt to comment)…

Here’s hoping third time’s a charm, otherwise, I give up.

    1. Hahaha! I’d love to see a picture of a pothole that big! 😀 Sorry you had problems, Holly. As you know, websites can sometimes have technical difficulties stemming from the server. If it had continued, I would have contacted Bluehost, but it seems to be okay now. Thanks for your perseverance! So, what did you think of Meteora?

  6. Beautiful! I’m falling in love with Greece just reading about it in posts and travelogues… Need to see it with my own eyes before it’s too late..

  7. What a beautiful country. Your slide show is a wonderful mixture of sights. It’s heart breaking to see what so many Greeks are going through right now. Hopefully The European Union can help them back on their feet.

    1. Yes, Greece is truly magical. It is sad what they’re going through, but they do a very good job of sheltering the tourists from it. Here’s hoping both the Greek and Italian economies will prosper again, in the near future.

  8. Hanging monastries? How wonderful. We have a Buddhist one here in Spiti Valley. I’m always in awe of how people of ancient times built these structures without all the machinery we have these days!

    1. Yes, these monasteries are incredible, Corinne! I will do an in depth post on them one of these days. India must have wonderful historic sites. Would love to visit, but for now I’m just an armchair traveller. 🙂 In the old days, they used to haul people and goods up in baskets. Now, they have hundreds of stairs and we managed to climb all of them. Whew!
