Welcome back! It’s time to announce results for the June 1st BOTB post
BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.
This was another international Metal vs Punk contest, pitting German Metalmeisters, Xandria against Swedish Punkers, Future Idiots, covering Meat Loaf’s “I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)”.
MEAT LOAF MANIA! | #BOTB RESULTS Share on X#BOTB Results for MEAT LOAF MANIA! See who won the June 1st Battle of the Bands[/tweetthis]
The battle started out going back and forth and I thought it would be another tight one. As it turns out, Xandria picked up steam towards the end. Here’s how it went down:
XANDRIA:
Arlee, Diedre, Angel, Jeffrey, Cherdo, Dixie, Cathy, Michele, Erika, Birgit, Mike, Holli, Guilie
Total: 13
FUTURE IDIOTS:
Mary, Shady, Angelika, Myke, John, Stephen, Robin, Yolanda
Total: 08
The winner is clear, so my vote won’t matter either way, but I’m choosing Xandria. I love symphonic rock and metal! There’s an extra element of drama that permeates the senses. Lead vocalist Dianne van Giersbergen reminds me of another great metal soprano, Tarja Turunen. Plus, my old feminist heart loves the role reversal here, which Guilie also mentioned in her comment. Then there’s the male vocalist – what a sexy rasp! Future Idiots did a decent job, but this is one song that doesn’t suit the punk genre, in my opinion. The faster tempo was somewhat jarring, although I did enjoy the vocals.
AND THE WINNER IS:
XANDRIA

I couldn’t find a video of Xandria performing the song live, so here they are with something else, along with Meat Loaf, in a rare concert clip from 1993. Enjoy!

Another great battle in the books. Paradise is one of the boyfriends favorite Meatloaf songs. Looking forward to your next battle.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mary! 🙂 It’s a great song, for sure. My favourite part is “Waiting for the End of Time”. LOL Have a good weekend.
Hi, Shady; Agreed; it was a good contest. ? I was expecting something a little harder-edged from Xandria as well, but in the end, the vocals, drama and feminist role reversal won me over. Voting in a battle where you’re not a fan of the song can sometimes be difficult. Future Idiots did well, considering they changed the tempo and feel of the song so much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!
Meat Loaf’s career was certainly interesting, wasn’t it? I liked the music he recorded that was written by that guy who wrote the theme to Streets of Fire–Jim something? Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad and I Would Do Anything for Love were both written by that guy, I think. Very melodramatic music!
Hi, Stephanie; Yes, Meat Loaf combined acting with singing to great dramatic effect. 🙂 He and Jim Steinman collaborated on most of the material, or, more accurately, Steinman wrote the songs and Meat Loaf acted them out. Thanks for dropping in!
Yahoo, I picked the winner, even tough both versions did an excellent job. Then again, I’m always a Meatloaf fan!
Meat Loaf songs must be difficult to cover and these two did a great job. Thanks for playing! 🙂
Never thought I’d see my name posted under the title: Future Idiots…. gee… I thought I already reached that status! lol
I love your sense of humour, Angelika! 😀 Thanks for playing along.
Great battle and I am glad she won as I loved her voice.
Thanks, Birgit. Dianne can really belt it! 🙂
I’m glad Xandria won. It was a fabulous version and I enjoyed it immensely. Good job!
Thanks for posting another Xandria song: I like it. I know I couldn’t listen to this style of music all the time, but once in awhile it’s really neat!
Loved seeing the pictures from your Meatloaf concert. Thanks for sharing.
Michele at Angels Bark
I’m glad you enjoyed Xandria’s version, Michele. 🙂 Symphonic metal is awesome. Love the drama! 😀 I know, it’s an acquired taste and not in the mainstream. Meat Loaf’s songs are like mini-plays; Cian Coey was fabulous singing the female parts. Putting that collage together was fun. Thanks!
This was a spirited contest. Both tracks were worth spending time with. I heart Tarja.
Glad you enjoyed it, Myke. Thanks for sharing that lovely poem earlier. Tarja is amazing, for sure. 🙂
