LET THE MUSIC PLAY

Music has always been one of my primary passions in life. I even took piano and guitar lessons as a child; voice lessons as a young adult. Unfortunately, any talent was mediocre at best, so nothing ever came of those aspirations. Besides, I needed to earn a living, and this was a pipe dream.

Regardless, I couldn’t live without music.
It makes me feel, think, reminisce.
It’s always there for me, no matter what!

Angry or stressed? My remedy is hard rock or metal, played at full volume. Like Primal Scream Therapy, only better.

CRANK IT LOUD!

Feeling sexy? Music can be such a turn on!

  1. I just like listening to music. It can transport me in a way similar to when I am in a creative flow. I never took music lessons and never learned to play an instrument. I was in my elementary school chorus for two years and did some group singing during sleepaway camp but that was about it. Rock is my preferred genre. Great minds; I have been thinking about Those Were the Days recently and almost had it on my blog a couple of weeks ago. Enjoyed your selections.

  2. Hi Debbie – I enjoy most types of music … just depends on what’s on … I’m a heathen when it comes to choice – I just listen and recently have taken to classical music … an essential in life – cheers Hilary

  3. Take a look at my blog. A hefty portion of it is music. Am I passionate about it? Is the Pope Catholic? Does a wild bear … never mind. (And that question about the Pope being Catholic is becoming less of a rhetorical question every day…)

I’m not a fan of classical (including, maybe especially, opera), or rap/hip-hop, or most types of EDM, or metal. After that I like every other kind. I have no problem looking back into the last century for music. To the contrary, I do that all the time. I even like things like “beautiful music,” Muzak, and production music. I especially like jazz, even smooth jazz, and all manner of popular music from the turn of the last century to about 1995.

    1. Yes, I know you’re heavily into music as well, John! 🙂 No comment on the Pope, since I’m not Catholic. 😉

I’m surprised you don’t like classical, but am with you on the rap/hip-hop and EDM. Love metal and hard rock, though!
Elevator music can be soothing, as well as smooth Jazz. You like blues too, yes?

  4. I also use music as stress therapy, but not Metal or Rock. I tend to prefer the songs of the 1930s and 1940s, soothing crooners, and happy Jazz. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I like soothing crooners and happy Jazz, on occasion, Pete. For therapy, though, I need the hard stuff! 😀 Thanks for coming by. Trying to catch up with comment replies. Better late than never, yes?

  5. Fun post Deb. I couldn’t be without music either. Only, since I lost my husband, I cannot listen to very many songs anymore. Yet. My fav music was the 80s, and since those were pre my hubby times, that music still brings me joy. <3

    1. I can understand how songs you listened to during your time together would be painful now. At least you can still enjoy those 80s tunes! Thanks for coming by, Deb!

  6. HEY GIRLFRIEND, LUV YOUR TUNES… YOU ROCKED THE HOUSE, BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, I AM GOING TO BE A GRAMMA AGAIN.. .MISSY IS PREGNANT.. MY YOUNGEST.. .THE NURSE.. .WOO HOO HOT DANG ONE MORE TIME! WOOOOO HOOOO hahahahahahahahaha

  7. As you well know, only the exception of my slightly more mellow tastes differentiate us here!

  8. I’d didn’t care for your 1st song but I like the other 2. You ate so right about music which comes in many forms and is everywhere. Even those natives on the island that will kill you if you go near them, have music, I bet. I l9ve classical but also classic rock, the music from the 80s which I danced to many times. Love blues and getting more into jazz. I guess the music I don’t like 8s that heavy metal especially when the voice sounds evil. I don’t like rap or hip hop. There might be a few that i don’t mind but it’s a few only.

    1. Not surprised you didn’t care for my first selection, Birgit! 😀 Believe it or not, I like a lot of classical music as well and used to go to the opera and ballet while living in Germany. And I’m with you on the rap and hip hop, although some of it is entertaining. Did you see Usher’s Super Bowl half-time show? Not bad!

  9. I grew up with music because my mom loved it. Music is my go-to for anything and everything. My favorite music is classic rock and thanks for the Led Zep music, one of my fave groups. Rock on fellow music lover.

  10. Debbie,

As you probably guessed, I am passionate about music like you. I have emotions and memories entwined in many of the older songs. Sometimes, I hear a song that makes me smile or it’ll bring me to tears. I think classic rock is my favorite music genre but I do love discovering new tunes regardless of what genre. The only song in your mix that I knew was the last one but I’m thinking I heard a cover. Thanks for joining the 4M party. Have a boogietastic week, my dear! xo

    1. Cathy, when it comes to music, you and I have similar feelings about it. 🙂 “Those Were The Days” is an old Russian song, going back to around 1925. Mary Hopkin recorded her cover in 1968 and it was produced by The Beatles’ Apple Records company. Always happy to join your 4M party, when the muse strikes! Thanks for coming by.

  11. I love music and can listen to all kinds of songs. My preference is slow, romantic numbers and sometimes when I am feeling blue, tear inducing, sad ones 🙂 Loved the videos you shared.

    1. Nice to see another music lover. 🙂 My preference is for dramatic music and that would definitely include slow, romantic songs. It’s interesting that we exacerbate our melancholia by listening to sad songs isn’t it? I’ve done that many times as well. Thanks for visiting!

    1. Glad you enjoyed my little poem, Rachna. 🙂 Can’t imagine life without music! I took singing lessons as a young adult, but was mediocre at best. As a child, I learned to play piano but the natural talent was lacking there too. Thanks for visiting.

  12. Yes! There a piece of music out there for any occasion and every mood. Gotta have it. You’ve expressed it just like I see it.

You also included one of my favorite Zep songs of all time.

    Lee
    Wrote By Rote

    1. Glad we have this in common Lee. 🙂 That is also one of my favourite Led Zep songs. Somebody once said: “Without music, life makes no sense”. True that! Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend.

  13. I love music, too. I can’t stand to be in a quiet car. The first type of song drove me in my youth but doesn’t do it for me anymore. I love the last one. I haven’t heard that song in ages. You’ve posted early this Sunday.

    1. Hi Joyce; I find the older I get, the more I like the hard-edged music. 🙂 glad you enjoyed the last one. This was just an older post I resurrected, and not part of the Music Monday meme. Thanks for dropping by and have a great week.

  14. Hi Liz; Looks like we have some common ground here, except classical music gets on my nerves after about 10 minutes. Rock keeps me awake and alert. 😉 Thanks for visiting.

  15. I love music, have to hear it everyday :).

I’m one of the ones who can work with music, it helps me concentrate…I guest I’m just weird like that.

Our family has had musicians generations and my son just started the fourth with his new band. My brothers have made quite a name for themselves here locally and my dad still plays every now and then.

Now my grandson is showing signs of having musics banging on stuff and dancing…I love it! I also love that we have the same taste in music, great selection as usual 🙂

Hope you’re having a great week my friend!

    1. I’m the same, Corina. Definitely more productive with the music on! Sounds like your family’s steeped in musical heritage. How great that is! 😀
Glad you enjoyed my selections. I just love Scorpions! ♥ We saw them live in 2010 – 2nd row centre – fantastic show! Their hometown in Germany is very close to mine and I’ve been a fan for decades. They’ve been around more than 40 years; almost as long as The Rolling Stones. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by.

  16. Hi Debbie,

Oh yes…I love music too, though listen to it only when I am not working or writing, or else it does distract me. But I’ve seen people who are able to work better when music is playing, just like my sister, though I wonder how they can concentrate 🙂

I’m glad my kids take after me, though they have their mobiles and other gadgets to hear their kind of music, which is different from mine. And music IS a great mood elevator and just makes you feel so nice – overall.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

BTW – I love the broad new look and seems like you did manage to get the CSS codes all right – great achievement indeed 🙂

    1. I can’t work at all without a backdrop of music. Pretty much applies to most things in my life. LOL To me, silence is deafening! Glad you enjoyed this post, Harleena. 😀
Finally, after months of trying, I hit upon the right CSS formula to widen the content! Sorry it took so long. I just prefer to figure things out for myself, no matter how difficult. Yes, great moment of self pride there. 😀 Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your week too.
