Welcome back! It’s time to announce results for the Aug. 1st BOTB post

Battle of the Bands BOTB Knockin' on Heaven's Door

BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by Far Away Series and StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.

This one pitted Italian movie soundtrack composer, Ennio Morricone
against American heavy metal band, Metallica.

Ennio came out the gate like gangbusters, and I actually feared a shutout. Some of you clearly do not like Metallica but did say their version was tolerable. Thanks for giving it a chance! Slowly, Metallica started getting some votes, but not enough to catch Ennio. I love Spaghetti Westerns and Ennio Morricone, but I also love Metallica. How to choose? About Metallica’s entry, Guilie said it best: “WHAT A VERSION! It gave me chills.” Yes; exactly! I am compelled to vote for it and am fervently hoping to see Metallica perform it live. This is my one unfulfilled “Concert Bucket List” item!

AND THE WINNER IS:

ENNIO MORRICONE

By ~ two-thirds of the vote.

Here’s the winner once again, with scenes from the movie:

  1. I never know how the battles will go down in the end because of how good the artists’ choices are with each of my fellow BOTBers. Although, Metallica wasn’t all that bad, I’m happy to see Ennio winning! Great showdown, Debbie!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the battle, Cathy. Your “not all that bad” opinion of Metallica’ s version is high praise, coming from someone who doesn’t like that genre. Goes well with Stephen’s “least offensive” and Robin’s “listenable”. 😀
Thanks for taking the time out of your break to drop by.

    1. Yes, it seems there aren’t too many Metallica fans around here. 🙂 No question, Morricone is a master at these soundtracks. Thanks for dropping by, FAE.

  2. I would have been surprised if Morricone hadn’t won, but, as I said before, I did enjoy the Metallica version and wouldn’t have been terribly disappointed if they had won. (I know, surprising from the opera, classical and classic rock queen) but what can I say. I’m looking forward to the next battle. Now I’m sorry I didn’t vote in the previous challenges.
    Thanks for presenting these. ☺

    1. I was surprised you liked the Metallica version, Mary. When it comes to Spaghetti Westerns, Morricone is the master – no argument. Come by for the next one on the 15th. Glad you’re enjoying these contests.

  3. Looks like tradition won out, Shady. 🙂 Funny you should say that about craving the hard stuff as we age. I’ve found the same to be true, although your tastes appear to be a bit more intense than mine. I love many forms of metal music, but the death growls, not so much. Thanks for dropping by and have a good weekend, yourself. Cheers!

  4. Yippee! Ennio won as it should be:) I love that scene of Eli Wallach looking for the tombstone. The music is so haunting and majestic

    1. Yes, most people agree, Birgit. 🙂 Ennio is the master! Eli Wallach had such an expressive face, didn’t he? Have you heard that Morricone will be doing the score for Quentin Tarantino’s new western? Cool!
      The Hateful Eight

    1. Yes, it’s hard to beat Ennio Morricone. 🙂 I’m looking forward to his score for Quentin Tarantino’s new movie. Should be great! Thanks for playing, Yolanda.

  5. I’m so glad Ennio won this one. I voted for Metallica, and I’d have felt über guilty if they’d won, hehe. Great battle, Debbie!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the battle, Guilie. We are of the same mind about Metallica’s version, but, as I suspected, most people went the traditonal way. Ennio’s win was well-deserved. 🙂

  6. Oh man, I wasn’t sure how this was going to go! When I voted, it seemed like it was going to be a shutout, which would have sucked 🙁 Nice battle!! My vote won, haha … I’ve got something ready for the 15th! Hope to see everyone there 🙂

    1. I was fearing a shutout too, but Metallica would have had my vote, at least. 🙂 Glad they got a few more. Nice to know you’ll be joining in on the 15th. See you then!

  7. You had the same vote total I did.
Morricone would be tough to beat, so Metallica had a respectable vote total considering the odds.

  8. Glad I picked a winner this time.
You know what’s funny? I picked up this movie about a month ago and have yet to find time to watch it.
Yes, I’m bad at getting to the theatre, and just as bad trying to find time to watch movies at home.
So much to write, so little time for leisure relaxing.

    1. Yes, Ennio took this one, emphatically! 🙂 I hope you get a chance to watch the movie. The other two in the trilogy are also great, if you’re into the Spaghetti western genre. Thanks for taking the time to participate, Jeffrey. Happy writing!

    1. They did indeed, but it’s hard to compete with Ennio Morricone. 🙂 Still, I was hoping Metallica would have received a few more votes. Oh well!
