Welcome back!  It’s time to announce the results for July 1st’s BOTB post.

Battle of the Bands BOTB

BATTLE OF THE BANDS (BOTB), hosted by Far Away Series and  StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands. is where you listen to different recordings of the same song and vote for the one you like best. Two “Battles” per month, on the 1st and 15th. Votes will be tallied and posted the following week.

This one pitted Tennessee’s guitar virtuoso, Chet Atkins
against Dutch-Indonesian band, The Tielman Brothers

The Tielman Brothers were strong coming out of the gate, but then it looked like Chet Atkins was catching up. Many of you, myself included, liked both versions and had trouble deciding. In the end, the musical acrobatics of The Tielman version won me over, as it did several other participants.

AND THE WINNER IS:

THE TIELMAN BROTHERS

By two thirds of the vote
[Sorry, Chet. Still an excellent performance, regardless.]

  1. Just wanted to say hi!! I was not able to make all the battles last week to vote because I was out of town working.
I liked the winner though and though both versions were good ones.
    Have a great day!

  2. Hi Debbie! I just wanted to stop by and say hi though I’m still on leave from blogging. This sounds like it was so much fun. I’ve never heard of the of Tielman Brothers…I don’t think? I hope you have a great day! 🙂

    1. So nice to see you, Mike! Thanks for dropping by. 🙂 Yes, this is a lot of fun and you don’t have to be a participant to vote. All are welcome, every 1st and 15th of the month. Lots of interesting music. The Tielman Brothers were big in Europe, but I don’t think their fame crossed the Atlantic. Cheers!

    1. The Tielman Brothers started out strong, with Chet coming on a bit later. I was hoping the outcome would have been a bit closer, but so it goes. 🙂 Although I haven’t been keeping track, I think I am picking more losers than winners. 😛 Glad you have a better record, Jeffrey.

    1. It really could have gone either way, Myke. Many of us liked both versions and had a hard time deciding. The Tielman Brothers added something unique, which is often an attraction. Thanks for playing. Better luck next time! 🙂

  3. Whoo Hoo! Here, I did pick the winner (not so at other BATTLES), but you posted two such excellent versions of this song, either way it would have gone, would have been fine with me.

Great BATTLE! Keep up the Good Work. See you again on the 15th.

  4. You called it, Shady! 🙂 In the final hour, I too was seduced by the Tielman Brothers’ unique sound, but it was a tough choice for several of us. Thanks for coming by. Just read your latest post and am looking forward to the next instalment. Cheers!

  5. Hey Debbie, I just wanted you to know that I’m following your Blogspot account, but I can’t follow this one. WordPress blogs don’t have a Google Friend Connect button. I used to be able to add WordPress blogs by copy/pasting the URL into my reader. Now I follow too many blogs and it won’t allow me to do that any longer. PLUS, I can’t delete any blogs from my reader that don’t have the Google Friend Connect button, because my “settings” tool hasn’t worked for over a year. Each time I click it, it tells me to come back another time. SO, I would follow this blog if I could, but I can’t. So, I don’t get updates on your posts. Please make sure you let me know as you post Soundtrack posts. And keep in mind that I’ll be largely unplugged (at camp) for the next three and a half weeks.Have a fantastic July!

    1. Hi Robin; The Blogspot account only contains an RSS feed of my WordPress posts. Why not subscribe directly to WordPress via RSS feed or email? Just a thought. The “soundtrack” entries will always contain a link to your blog. Doesn’t Blogger give you pingback notices? I’ll be publishing 1966 next week, but not sure exactly what day. If you prefer, I could send you an email when it’s live. Have a lovely time. It’s good to unplug once in awhile. 🙂

    2. Technical glitch! For some reason this comment got routed to my spam folder and I only saw it a day later. Thanks for subscribing via email, Robin.

  6. The Tielmans really took that win! Their version started growing on me the more I listened after I had already voted, but still I prefer Atkins. Interesting contest with a song not heard too often these days.

    1. I was surprised the outcome wasn’t closer. Several of us were having trouble deciding and it could have gone either way. Glad you enjoyed the battle, Lee. Thanks for turning me on to this fun blogfest. I’m loving it! 🙂

    1. I loved both actually, and it was a tough choice for several of us. 🙂 Next time, will be something completely different yet again. Thanks for playing, Birgit.
