Confession time: I’m a packrat by nature, and over the course of my six+ decades on Earth, I’ve accumulated a lot of stuff. Always reluctant to part with anything, you can imagine what my basement looks like!
BC (before computers), I was the biggest of bookworms and for years, played games with Book Club Associates. They would offer 6 or 7 books for $1.00 each on sign-up, with the proviso that you purchase 3 or 4 more within a two year period.
I would fulfill the quota after a few months, cancel my membership, wait awhile, then enroll again. This went on for decades and allowed me to amass a huge library of hardcovers, which I still have.
Here’s a few from the living/dining area; books and music, including cassettes.
(I know, but the player still works and it sounds good, so, why not? 😉 )
More in the bedroom:
The camels were a gift from my my father when he was
leading a UN peacekeeping mission in Egypt, 1964/65
And, still in the bedroom,
books yet to be read (including the Kindle app):
(I guess you can tell I’m a huge Dean Koontz fan!)
We have done some extensive travelling in the last decade and I love to buy
books everywhere we stop. Here’s a sampling of that collection:
(Photos on the wall were taken by me last fall.)
The book I’m currently reading (sporadically):

I love how many books you have! I don’t have enough space in my house for this yet, but I strive to have my own library one day.
Welcome to The Den, Shelby! I don’t have enough space either; my house is just under 1000 sq. ft., but I manage to cram them in. 🙂 A dedicated library room would be fabulous! Wish there was space to do that. Thanks for dropping in.
Dean Koontz is a favorite of mine as well! I, too, have never intentionally let go of a hardback 🙂 I don’t think I consciously decided to accumulate what amounts to a library, but it’s a comfort to have. Looks like you agree 😉
Hi diedre; There’s something unique about Dean Koontz’ writing and, he’s a supreme dog lover, as well! Many of his novels have dogs in them and they’re never harmed. 🙂 There’s nothing like the look of books stacked on shelves to make one feel at home. Thanks for dropping in!
Ha! I can see the fandom of Dean Koontz! That club you were in sounds like the old Columbia Music ones! Goodness did I used to get hosed with those! Great post!
Yes, hopelessly besotted with Dean Koontz’ books. 🙂 Ah yes, the Columbia House Music (and Video) Club. I played the same games with them and got a lot of cheap cassettes and VHS tapes over the years. I still have them all, too. Hopeless packrat. 😛 I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for hosting this blogfest!
Debbie, You are a Koontz fan. Love the travel books. Yes, I have less card making books and magazines. Sylvia D.
Yes, I truly am a Koontz fan. Now I need to get caught up. 🙂 So many books, so little time, it seems. Thanks for coming by, Sylvia!
Love your collection. I have a ton of books too. My husband and I are both English majors.
There’s nothing like the sight of books on shelves to make you feel at home, yes? 😀 Thanks for coming by, Danielle.
Wowwwwwww! Your home resembles a library! 😛
Lucky you, Debbie!
Yes, I love reading and computers haven’t spoiled my book-reading habits. It’s just that I am unable to find time to read these days. I so need to do something about that!
Hi Shilpe; It’s amazing how many books a person can accumulate over a 40-year span! 😀 It’s difficult for me to find the time to read these days as most of my time seems to be spent online. Trying to change that! Thanks for coming by.
Hi Debbie – I buy way too many books … I need to read! I downsized before I came over to Canada for what I thought would be 2 years, but turned out to be one – so now I’m back and still buying books – and I left loads behind … but love having them around … just enjoy – and happy reading sometime over the weekend – cheers Hilary
Oh yes, I love having books around too, even though I never seem to have the time to read them anymore. Working on it! 🙂 Thanks for coming by.
I wouldn’t say having a computer changed me reading habits but purchasing a smart phone for my b-day certain did. I discovered the world of podcasts and coupling that with the fact that I needed to start building up my leg strength and lose weight, my reading of books dropped down to zero. Normally an avid reader who consumes roughly 120+ books a year, last year we dropped down to about 40+, and the bulk of those were read prior to the purchase of my phone in late May.
That’s a lot of books, GB. I used to have a similar pace, but then my father bought me a computer for Christmas one year and now, it monopolizes most of my time. Podcasts seem to be the newest “big thing”. Must investigate more about them. Thanks for dropping in!
I am a reader, have always been. I’d like to think the computer hasn’t eaten in on my reading time but tat wouldn’t be entirely true. But I do still make time. Loved your pictures – the books look so cheerful :-). I like the idea of a single theme through the month. I hope I can join in.
I love the look of books on shelves! 😀 It’s hard to find the time to read them, for me, but I’m trying to make more of an effort. Thanks for dropping in. This monthly link-up is open to everyone. Cheers!
Debbie D’s Library is quite impressive. I like that you have music people represented.
I hope you are faring well in the Toronto Blizzard of 2019.
HI Myke; We survived the Polar Vortex, but are now “enjoying” freezing rain. Can’t win! 😛 It’s amazing how much stuff you can collect in a 40-year period! 😀 I love biographies, especially those of my favourite musicians. Thanks for your support, as always!
I recall book club and record club. But now they have some type of box month club. For a while hubby and did a food one.
Coffee is on
Oh yes, the record club: I played similar games with them! 😀 A monthly food club sounds interesting. Thanks for dropping by, Dora.
I only wish my books were that organized… I know I’ll find one in the microwave one day…
Ooh – scorched book! Probably not too tasty. 😀
Oh my! You’re a woman after my own heart. I think I’d like to come spend an afternoon in your home just looking at all the titles you have on your shelves. Then, I’d settle in and begin reading!!! 🙂
We have a few things in common, Lisa. 😀 It’s comforting to be surrounded by books, isn’t it?
I can so relate. I’ve piles of books too. Isn’t it wonderful? Yes it is.
Have a fabulous day, Debbie. ♥
Yes, I love the look of books on shelves. Wish I had enough space for a separate library room. Cheers!
Last year I did a major clean-out. My boys do not want a lot of my ‘stuff’ especially books and CDs. I had two trucks pick up stuff and made several trips to the library and Salvation Army to get rid of things. I still enjoy reading a book in hand, but do read a lot on my Kindle. But buying books anymore? Rarely.
HI Denise; We need to get rid of a lot of stuff, but I’m not parting with my books or CDS, or even the cassettes, because I still play them. 😀 The VHS tapes, on the other hand….Likely NOBODY would want those! I rarely buy books anymore, unless it’s something I really want to read, which I don’t do enough of, these days. Thanks for dropping in. You’re in the same Polar Vortex nightmare as we are. Stay warm!
