AUTUMN IN SUBURBIA – SUNDAYS IN MY CITY

Living so close to Toronto, I’m forever taking pictures of the famous skyline and CN Tower.

It’s a stunning view, but as with any big city, there’s not a lot of foliage in the “concrete jungle”.

We’ve had some magnificent fall weather these last few days and this has inspired me to drive around town, capturing the splendour of autumn in suburban southern Ontario. Enjoy!

I still couldn’t resist getting a shot of Toronto, from across the water at a local park.
It needed maximum zoom and appears cloudy, but here it is:

  1. Oh Canada! ♥ I have thousands of photos from my visit. That shot of the CN Tower is fabulous, Debbie – the contrast of the color of the water to the skyline is just superb. So elegant. especially with the boat’s pristine white. It is such a vast country and the thing that took my breath away was the space! We got to see quite a bit during our three weeks there and I also got to meet some of my blogger friends – imagine – across the oceans 🙂 The trees are completely fascinating – I love the bare branches just as much as the pretty foliage. I saw the gorgeous weeping willows for the first time, consciously. I was also dazzled by the Marilyn Monroe building and the beauty of the drive across Niagara-on-the-lake and Forks of the Credit. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos – and hope to meet you next time I visit! ♥ Where I live, we do have seasons – summer, monsoons and winter – it is quite pleasant the year around and we love it. 🙂

    1. Hi, Vidya; I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. That one of the CN Tower was a fluke! I didn’t think it would turn out so well, because I had to set the zoom lens on maximum, but it does look rather “arty”. Meeting online friends is so special and I hope we do get that chance, one day. I didn’t realize you had winter in India. Can’t imagine it gets cold like it does here. Monsoons would be interesting to experience. Thanks for dropping in! 🙂

    1. Thanks! 🙂 I’ve never experienced a monsoon. That would be interesting although I generally dislike rain. Hard to walk the dogs in it and it makes mud. Messy! 🙂

  2. Love those gorgeous fall colours, Eh, Debbie? Great photos! It is such a picturesque time here in Fall in Ontario, isn’t it? I just love it. Now the leaves have fallen and it’s looking a little drab out there so I’m glad I clicked away taking lots of photos to remember the trees’ finery. I think we’re lucky in Canada to have four such distinct seasons, even if winter wears out its welcome pretty darn fast.

    1. This is a great time of year here in Ontario, but November and crappy weather is coming up. (Actually, we’re having a major downpour today.) Although I’m not fond of winter, everything else here is good and outweighs that discomfort. Still, I’ll be bitching about it all season. Venting releases the displeasure. 🙂

    1. Dreaming is good, Corinne! 😀 I’d love to visit India. You and your blog mates there have shown me so much of your beautiful country and culture.

    1. Hi, Laurel; I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. 🙂 Yes, fall is beautiful in our province, but I sure hate what comes after! Thanks for dropping in.

  3. So gorgeous! I traveled north as far as North Carolina last week and hoped to see color. I didn’t see but just a tree here or there and was very disappointed and then on my way home in South Carolina I saw three vivid trees in red, orange and yellow standing together in the middle of green trees. It made my day. I was driving and couldn’t photograph them but I hope to always remember them. I’m back in Florida and love the weather and warmth all year. I only miss the fall color, not the cold!

    1. Welcome to The Den, Jeannie. 🙂 I’m with you about the cold! While we love the fall colours, we know what we’re in for, after that. Florida would be nice to visit then, but I wouldn’t want to be there in the summer. Someone else I know who lives there describes it as “wearing a wool suit in a steam bath”. Thanks for dropping in.

    1. Hello, Indy; I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. 🙂 I didn’t realize it gets cold in India. Didn’t you have a similar photo feature at your blog, called “Snap Your Week”? Thanks for dropping by.

  4. No extremely noticeable changes in the seasons where I live–at least not to me. Your photos are wonderful. It makes me want to go to Toronto.

    1. Ah, but you have palm trees (I love palm trees!) and other beautiful vegetation which we don’t have, not to mention, a warm climate year round. 🙂 Toronto has changed a lot over the years. It’s truly a world-class city.

  5. Some beautiful pictures; similar (except for the Toronto skyline, of course) to what we have in upstate New York. My favorite season? Spring, once it gets going. I would love fall except for what follows.

    1. Oh yes, spring going into summer is definitely preferable to fall going into winter! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Thanks for dropping in.

      1. I took the challenge, and even though it was raining today, I took some nice pictures. Front, and back yard. Lots of leaves on the ground but still some color in a few trees. Posted them on your page on my blog!

  6. Hi, Shady; I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. 🙂 Florida must be brutal in the summer, with all that humidity. 😛 “Steam bath wearing a wool suit” – what a perfect word image for that! On the other hand, I’d love to hightail it down there in winter, see how the Snowbirds live. ♫ You Can’t Always Get What You Want ♫ As beautiful as our autumns are, what comes after is truly unpleasant. Perhaps you should pity me! 😉 Thanks for visiting and you have a great week, too.

  7. Oh these are beautiful pictures. The home with the willow-that is beautiful and the one blazing red tree-just magical in my books. I have to say I love Spring because I can smell all the new buds and see the bright greens. I love the cherry trees and the blossoms. Autumn is equal in my books because of the colours and the crispness in the air. I couldn’t live where there was only one season. I love the changes too much

    1. That’s my favourite shot too, Birgit. 🙂 It’s right next to a lakeside pathway. Beautiful area! Spring is lovely, except when it rains a lot and makes mud. Dogs and mud are not a happy combination. I could live somewhere where it’s warm all the time because I hate the cold. On the other hand, everything else is so good here, winter is a small price to pay.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, Claudya. 🙂 You don’t have cold winters either and that’s a major plus, to me! Our beautiful Fall is a prelude to some serious nastiness, but everything else is good here, so we just deal. Thanks for visiting!

  8. Ah, the beauty of the north!!! How I miss the changing of the leaves. I never get to see Fall colors out here in Texas. I miss it so much. Autumn was always my favorite season up north. It still is here because I love the cooler temperatures. But the color is missing. I envy you!

    1. I love the early fall, but come November, it starts to suck, Those grey, rainy, cold and damp days! 😛 Oh wait, I forgot! You like that. 🙂 I need more sunshine to be cheerful and it’s a loooong winter.

      1. That’s true. It can be long and cumbersome. I almost forgot… Here it’s the outrageous heat in the summer but I don’t think I could go back to live in those harsh winters… Enjoy every second of the beautiful Autumn while it’s here 🙂

        1. Long, cumbersome, depressing….I could go on. 🙂 We’re supposed to get a nasty storm overnight and all day tomorrow! Hope this doesn’t mean the end our nice weather.

          1. That could be why we are so in love with Autumn: because it’s beauty is so short-lived. If it lingered on and on, we might get sick of that too. Although I doubt it. I hope for your sake you have many more gorgeous Fall days…

    1. Hi, Suzanne; I’m surprised you don’t have similar foliage. Too warm, perhaps? We had enough colder nights to make the difference. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Thanks for dropping in. 🙂

  9. Beautiful photos Debbie! I miss the brights reds so much! That’s why we planted three Japanese Maple trees in our yard. They turn bright red, and remind me of Indian Summer. You live in a gorgious corner of this world. I particularly liked the skyline photo with the sailboat, even if it doesn’t have any trees.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, Angelika. As I remember, the colours aren’t as bright in Germany. Japanese maples are beautiful additions. Yes, I just had to take another skyline photo. 😀 Can’t get enough of that Toronto lakeshore!
