8 Sentence Sunday Blog Hop.

Currently, I am writing a multi-part series about the dogs in my care, which will be turned into a book.  These 8 sentences are a continuation from my story of Luke, the White Shepherd:

This routine went on for years.  Luke also enjoyed many vacations at my house; we were forever bonded.  He started deteriorating around the age of 10.  First, there was a problem with his spleen and it had to be removed.  There were stomach issues too.  I remember once, he had a bad case of diarrhea, all over my car.   What a mess!  The poor boy was so mortified!

  1. You are SUCH A GOOD DOGLADY. Luke is so fortunate to have you with him. I feel so sorry for him. It is hard to have a dog get older. He is not that old but his life just seems to be progressing downward.

  2. I don’t know what I would do if I lost my doggies. Probably be a mental case. I don’t look forward to that…but until then I will love them with every fiber of my being that I have.

  3. Aawww….poor Luke. It’s so hard watching age set in on those we love. You’ve done such a great job of bonding us (readers) with him. I’m really enjoying his story.

  4. I just left a comment on the continuation of Luke’s story and I’m loving him :) and I love how much you care about these pets as if they’re your own.

It’s such a touching story :) and I love how you tell it!

  6. Poor boy. I hate it when my pets are ill. You can’t help but worry.

  7. Poor Luke. It says a lot about you that your immediate reaction to the mess was concern his own feelings rather than concern for the car. That’s what sets animal lovers apart.

    • Thank you, Botanist. :-) My first concern was definitely for Luke, but it sure took awhile to clean up the car and air it out. :-p My vehicle, a Taurus station wagon, was dubbed the “dirty old dogmobile” for a reason. ;-) Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

  8. Oh, man. I can so relate to this…

  9. It’s amazing how even the animals will show chagrin. Good snippet, Debbie. :)

  10. Poor Luke! And poor Debbie! It’s so painful to lose a beloved furry companion.

  11. Yes, I’ve seen that. So hard when they age so much faster than we do.

  12. Poor boy.. I hate it when mine are ill and they have no understanding do they? And they ask for so little..

  13. Poor Luke, he sounds like he was a wonderful dog.

  14. Poor Luke–and we’ve all pretty much had the same reaction. The most incredible thing about dogs is that they are incapable of self-pity. They just get on with life, you know?

Nice snippet, Debbie. I hope you’re going to add photos to your book. :-)

  15. Aww, poor Luke. It’s always so hard when a pet ages…this excerpt contained so much emotion!

  16. My heart aches for you, Debbie and the slow loss of Luke. Bless our pets. They ask for so little and give so much.

  17. This excerpt gives a sense of time passing because of the details, without feeling like you’re rushing through it. I feel all sad for Luke as his health deteriorated! I’ve seen that “oh I’m so sorry I did that!” look on a pet’s face and it just melts you ;-)
    Thanks for sharing this bit.

  18. Animals worm their way into your heart, but they don’t stay with us long enough, do they?
